AUTOPILOT (ATA 22)
The purpose of an automatic pilot system is
primarily to reduce the work, strain, and fatigue
of controlling the aircraft during long flights.

The automatic pilot is a system of automatic controls which holds the aircraft
on any selected magnetic heading and returns the aircraft to that heading
when it is displaced from it. The automatic pilot also keeps the aircraft
stabilized around its horizontal and lateral axes.

YAW DAMPER

The Yaw Damper System keeps the airplane


stable around the airplane yaw (vertical) axis.

During flight the yaw damper commands rudde


movement in proportion to and opposite to the
airplane yaw moment

This keeps unwanted yaw motion to a


minimum and makes the flight smoother.

Unwanted airplane yaw motion is caused by


either the following condition :

- Air turbulence
