6 Link to Google Maps The Google Maps site no longer supports KML display. NOTE: KML still works with the Google Maps API.

Download the KML

The Network Link KML above provides a small file that does not contain your data, but rather links to the data KML published by this spreadsheet.
To get a KML file that contains your actual data, follow the steps below. Note that this file will not auto-update like the Network Link.
1 Download this file: Click this link to download your current data KML
2 Rename the downloaded file to change the file's extension from ".tsv" to ".kml"

Create Your Own Placemarks & Templates

1 Choose which template(s) you want to use, go to their sheet(s), and enter your own information under the "static" variable section. Optionally, edit the
"style" variable section. You can create your own templates by duplicating one of the template sheets, giving it a new name, and customizing it.
2 Go to the "PlacemarkData" sheet. Give each placemark a name, location, and specify the sheet name of the template it should use.
3 Enter each piece of balloon information in the appropriate columns, according to which template that placemark is using.
HINT: Enter any template sheet name into cell A1 on the "PlacemarkData" sheet to get a column header guide for that template.

Re-publish & Refresh to view changes

After you edit your data or change the spreadsheet, follow the steps below to view the changes in Google Earth:
1 Make sure your KML is finished generating, and doesn't have Errors or Warnings, by looking at the top of your PlacemarkData sheet.
2 From the menu bar, select: File > Publish as a web page, and click the "Republish Now" button to re-publish the new KML.
- DO NOT check the box to "Automatically republish when changes are made", as it may cause errors.
3 In Google Earth, right-click on the Network Link and choose "Refresh".
- A fresh copy of the KML with your changes will be fetched.
- A second refresh is sometimes required to see all changes.

Save/export your placemark data (optional):

If you want to save a backup of the data in your spreadsheet, or export it to another spreadsheet mapper, use the links below.

HALO Trust is the world's oldest, largest and most successful humanitarian landmine clearance agency, having cleared more than 13 million landmines and other explosive remnants of war. Today, HALO has over 8,000 locally recruited staff. We invest in local leadership, keeping affected communities integral to the process and providing employment in areas that offer few opportunities. HALO uses Google Earth for minefield survey (the process of identifying and mapping mined areas), data validation and to produce maps for donors, governments, and other NGOs.
