A New Approach

I started this book nearly 6 months ago, without any idea of what an
enormous challenge it would be to complete it. In the time I've spent in
this project, I've experienced two computer failures, two layoffs, a
vacation to Europe, and a vermin infestation.
Yet, here we are! Mission accomplished! I'm so excited to share this book
with you all, as well as take this opportunity to discuss my design
philosophies.
My biggest goal with this book was to produce a suppliment which is
entirely "in game", that is, all references to rules of play are described
from the point of view of somone who is witnessing these rules from
within the game. I wanted to avoid writing a rule book that would
constrain and stifle players and DMs. Instead, I wanted this book to be
fallible, malleable, and delivered by an unreliable narrator. In this way,
DMs and players have a lot more wiggle room, (and a lot more fun!)
discussing the rules and seeing how well they play out.
Furthermore, it answers some very important questions.
"Where would your character even find an airship? And what does your
character even know about them?"
Since this pamphlet is in game, player knowlege and character knowlege
are one and the same. This system makes meta-gaming impossible and
gives the DM freedom to fill in the gaps.
Moreover, these aren't just airships which were found or commissioned.
These are Izzy's Airships, and while mostly new, there is no telling what
went into their construction, what corners were cut, and what's new vs.
what's salvaged from other wrecks.
Finally, the DM and players are free to create a ship of their own, with all
of the quirks and character their heart desires.

While you might have seen other books, which declare the
"rules" of how airships are built, we at Izzy's Slightly Used But wait, what about magic?

Don't I need a licence or
something?
What do you think this is? Thay? No, you do not need a
license to fly an airship. But we don't sell a craft unless
there is someone to pilot it off the lot, so either you, or
one of your associates must be trained in the use of air
vehicles, and no, bardic "Jacks of all trade” don’t count.
Do you offer financing?
Adventurers typically have a life expectancy shorter
than Izzy's attention span, so we require payment in
full before the airship leaves the lot. If you need to
finance your airship, you will have to seek a private
loan elsewhere.
Do you offer insurance?
Here at Izzy's Slightly Used Airships we offer
something better than insurance, we offer
assurance. We assure you that our vehicles are in
peak condition, and if anything breaks down, it's
entirely your fault.

Getting Started
So, you want to build your own airship? Or rather, have us
build one for you? The process is pretty simple.
Initially, you must select your model of choice. Each model
has unique propulsion, hull plating, and accessories.
Next, decide upon the weapon systems. Make sure you
have the number of emplacement points required to
install them.
Third, choose any aftermarket modifications, such as an
illuminated hull, mithril trims, luxury options, retractable
ceilings, etc. Go wild!
The fourth and final step is the creation of your ships
schematics, simplified with the pictures and paper cut-
outs provided! After payment in full, a ship is constructed
at a rate of one day per 250 gp of its final cost.

Airship Models
The Kestrel Class Sloop
Short, sleek, and to the point, the Kestrel is a small service
ship. Its minimal armament and passenger capacity is more
than made up for with its versatility. Perfect for small groups.
The Auroch Class Light Freighter
If you're looking for a commercial ship, then look no further.
Suitable for those with an entrepreneurial spirit, the Auroch
has a cargo capacity that would make sea fairing vessels
blush, and the armament to keep it safe.
The Oroboros Class Caravel
Built with safety in mind, the Oroboros embodies the notion
that slow and steady wins the race. While it may not have the
cargo or weapon capacity of other ships, it is by far the
sturdiest.
The Vulpes Class Elemental Yacht
With an elemental drive core standard on all models, the
Vulpes is built for speed. Perfect for both an emergency
response, or a pleasure cruise.
The Manticore Class Frigate
The only capital ship available for purchase at Izzy's, the
Mantacore, is a versatile model which can be built to suit any
purchaser's specifications.

The Kestrel

W
ith a graceful wyndwood hull, an open top
cargo deck, and a host of options, this is the
most versatile ship an enterprising adventurer
can buy - other than a capital ship, that is. Of

The Auroch

he Auroch Class Light Freighter is the
pinnacle of mercantile design. Compact and

Propulsion
While the majority of the Auroch's lift is provided by its bag of
lighter-than-air gas, its forward motion is generated by its
propulsion systems
Sails
Just like your mercantile counterparts on the high seas.
These sails are cheap, readily available, and light weight. You
don't need to remove your sails if you install another system,
but they don't provide any increased speed but are very handy
in emergencies.
Aeolipile
A goblin contraption which harnesses steam in a clockwork
device of mechanical trickery, the torsion created by this
artifice rotates a propeller. We've altered the design so that
the heat for the boiler is generated magically with no need to
store flammable coal on board your ship.
Mechanus Wheel Drive
Through a means not best discussed, we have procured a
Wheel of Mechanus. This ever spinning wheel is connected to
a sophisticated gearbox, which transmits the raw force of the
wheel into a variety of different speeds and torques. The
result is a turbine of unprecedented power.
There are some concerns with its use, for if the patented
lead-lined casings for the drive were to ever to fail or be
removed, the wheel would most certainly disappear from this
existence, and be replaced by a very angry Pentadrone
named Apollonius 11-22.33333 (repeating of course). This
engine causes the ship to require attunement from its pilot.

or those seeking a sturdy, resilient ship, the
Oroboros is a perfect fit. Featuring solid iron
construction, this ship might be light on speed
and cargo capacity, but it can sure take a wallop.
The Oroboros ensures that you and your ship
make it to your destination in one piece.

Goblin Origins Custom Options


With its dual pontoon design, a stock aeolipile engine, a Hull

construction, the Oroboros is unmistakeably gobliniod in Ironclad

Weapon Systems

Its inner workings are incomprehensible. It appears to
have been designed by goblins and manufactured by
hobgoblins. Sadly, neither it, or its ammunition can be
replicated. It has 13 rounds left in its magazine.
