Social change involves alteration of the social order of a society. It may include changes
in social institutions, social behaviours or social relations

https://ssir.org/articles/entry/five_levers_for_social_change_part_1

Collective behavior and social movements are just two of the forces driving social
change, which is the change in society created through social movements as well as
external factors like environmental shifts or technological innovations. Essentially, any
disruptive shift in the status quo, be it intentional or random, human -caused or natural,
can lead to social change. Below are some of the likely causes.

Examples of Social Change

1. The Reformation.
2. The abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
3. The Civil Rights movement.
4. The feminist movement.
5. The LGBTQ+ rights movement.
6. The green movement.

Causes of Social Change

Technology is a driving force behind globalization, while the other forces of social change
(social institutions, population, environment) play comparatively minor roles. technology

11
can create change in the other three forces social scientists link to social change.
Advances in medical technology allow otherwise infertile women to bear children, which
indirectly leads to an increase in population. Advances in agricultural technology have
allowed us to genetically alter and patent food products, which changes our envi ronment
in innumerable ways

Social Institution leads to changes in all social institutions. For example, the
industrialization of society meant that there was no longer a need for large families to
produce enough manual labor to run a farm. Further, new job opportunities were in close
proximity to urban centers where living space was at a premium. The result is that the
average family size shrunk significantly.

Population composition is changing at every level of society. Births increase in one

nation and decrease in another. Some families delay childbirth while others start bringing
children into their folds early. Population changes can be due to random external forces,
like an epidemic, or shifts in other social institutions, as described above. But regardless
of why and how it happens, population trends have a tremendous interrelated impact on
all other aspects of society.

https://images.app.goo.gl/BuE1TWAfhSdtXpmZ8

Turning to human ecology, we know that individuals and the Environment affect each
other. As human populations move into more vulnerable areas, we see an increase in the
number of people affected by natural disasters, and we see that human interaction with
the environment increases the impact of those disasters. Part of this is simply the
numbers: the more people there are on the planet, the more likely it is that some will be
affect ed by a natural disaster.

12
https://images.app.goo.gl/uQq8FW3PbbY7KjLdA

Modernization describes the processes that increase the amount of specialization and
differentiation of structure in societies resulting in the move from an undeveloped society
to developed, technologically driven society (Irwin 1975). By this definition, the level of
modernity within a society is judged by the sophistication of its technology, particularly as
it relates to infrastructure, industry, and the like.

The Social Change Project asks how social change is happening today and how we can
strengthen civil society's efforts. Change itself is constantly changing: where it occurs,
who's involved, who decides, how new ideas are generated, what blocks it and what
boosts it. ICT can enable disadvantaged individuals and communities to participate in the
national and global policy decisions that can change their lives and empower them to take
actions that can financially, socially, and politically benefit them.

13
Planning a Social Campaign: Before starting a project or campaign, you should be able
to do the necessary paperwork better known as a Concept Paper. This allows experts to
see if your project is doable over the time frame that was given and if it is signif icant
enough to be made into reality.

A concept paper is a document used to convince a panel of potential funders to help a

product, program, or service become a reality. A concept paper is a document used to
convince a panel of potential funders to help a product, program, or service become a
reality. It has five elements.

Five Elements of a Concept Paper

1. Introduction includes group’s mission and vision and a brief introduction of a project.
2. Purpose includes the reasons why a project is worth in sponsor’s time, effort, and
money.
3. Description includes all the necessary information about the project.
4. Support contains the budget needed for the project
5. Contact Information includes information on how the author can be contacted

14
Simplified ICT Project Process Overview

1. Planning involves the conceptualization, research available data, setting deadlines

and meetings, assigning people for various tasks, finding web host, creating a site
map, listing all applications needed and funding.
2. Development involves the actual creation of the websites. Including the production
of images, infographics and others.
3. Release and Promotion involves the actual release of the website for public view
and promoting it which typically starts before the actual release.
4. Maintenance involves responding to feedback of your site visitors and continuing to
improve the website.

Guidelines for Successful Social Change Campaign

1. Community Problem
2. Vicinity
3. Campaign Name
4. Type of Social Media Used
5. Website Used
6. What will be the content of your social media site?
7. Why did you choose that type of social media?
8. Why did you choose that website?

Role of ICT in Recent History

• EDSA (People Power Revolution). This event lasted from 1983 to 1986. During a
radio broadcast of Radyo Veritas

• EDSA Dos. This is also known as the 2001 EDSA Revolution, happened during
January 17 to 21, 2001.

• Million People March. This is a series of protests that mainly took place in Luneta
Park from August 22 to 26, 2016. It was to condemn the misuse of the Priority
Development Assistance Fund.
