ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
To make a 2d or 3d composition which
reflects our learning about elements of
design and principles of design.
MY COMPOSITION
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
1.LINE
Often the starting point for all artistic expression,
the line is one of the most essential elements of
design.A line can be vertical, diagonal, horizontal,
and even curved. It can be any width, size, shape,
position, direction, interval, or density.

In this composition, the lines used are :-

HORIZONTAL LINES
ZIGZAG LINES
ORGANIC LINES
2. COLOR
Monochromatic color scheme
Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base
hue and extended using its shades, tones and tints. Tints are
achieved by adding white and shades and tones are achieved
by adding a darker color, grey or black.

COMPLEMENTARY COLORS
Complementary color schemes use two opposite colors
on the color wheel.
3. SHAPE
All objects are composed of shapes, and all elements of design are
shapes in some way.

shapes come in two different types: geometric and organic.

This composition consists of geometric shapes such as

circles, triangles as well as organic shapes.
4. TEXTURE
Texture refers to the surface quality in a work of art. We associate
textures with the way that things look or feel.

In this composition, we can see the smooth

texture of the sarees worn by the women as well
as of the paint
and rough texture of the earthen pots.
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
The principles of design describe the ways that artists use the elements
of art in a work of art.

1. BALANCE
Balance is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors,
texture, and space. If the design was a scale, these elements should be
balanced to make a design feel stable.

In this composition asymmetrical balance is visible.

Asymmetrical balance means that the two halves of the work of art
are different, however, try to create balance.
2. EMPHASIS
Emphasis is a strategy that aims to draw the viewer's attention to a
specific design element.

In this composition, the dark green color of the women

saree is being emphasised.
3. PATTERN

Patterns are simply a repetition of more than one design element working in
concert with each other.

In this composition, the pattern of the saree is seen

being repeated.

4. SCALE AND PROPORTION

Scale is the size of one object in relation to the other objects in a
design or artwork. Proportion refers to the size of the parts of an
object in relationship to other parts of the same object.
5. UNITY
Unity is the principle of design that unifies all other
principles within a piece of work, allowing each
individual element to coexist with one another to form
an aesthetically pleasing design.

In this composition also all the elements exist in harmony

with each other.
