Discussion

READ
What is self-image? Self-Image is how you see yourself. It is the mental picture that
you have of yourself that has been created by numerous self-impressions that have
built up over time. It encompasses your physical attributes as well as your personal
characteristics, traits, and abilities.
How you see yourself will affect your thinking, your behavior, and how you relate to
others. Self-image has a very significant impact on your happiness in life. A positive
image can enhance our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Conversely, a negative image can decrease our satisfaction and ability to function in
these areas.

PERSONAL PACKAGING
Picture yourself as an exquisitely and brightly wrapped gift whose contents are
unknown. Later, you will unveil the contents:
The way you move – your visual poise; the manner in which you behave and speak
– your social grace; the eclectic knowledge that you possess – your aesthetic
awareness.
To get beyond first impressions made on others, you must package yourself
attractively but never forget that there must be something of value inside the
package.

SOME FACTORS THAT MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE NOW
1. Your relationship to your FAMILY. Is probably the most significant interaction
you experienced during your formative years.
2. Your relationship to your PEERS.
3. The effect of BODY LANGUAGE. Your body movements and your facial
expressions affect the total image you’re trying to project.
4. Past experiences–cause and effect relationship
5. Roles you played - The roles you played at home will reflect what you may
show in the workplace

Answer these questions about yourself.

What you think you look like?_____________________
How you view your abilities?___________________
How you view your personality traits?______________________
What you believe others think you?_____________________

These questions lead to what sort of self-image you have, either positive or negative.

You will see yourself in a positive or negative way depending on how you feel
about yourself. If you feel good about yourself, you will have a positive self-image.
Conversely, if you do not feel good about yourself, you will have a negative image. If
you have a positive image of yourself, you recognize your strengths and potential
while being realistic about our shortcomings and limitations. If you have a negative
image, you focus on your faults and weaknesses, often playing down your strengths
while exaggerating your failures and imperfections.
