Immediate Media:
Immediate Media is a brand that
produces magazines and
websites. This makes it a mass
media company because it
produces products that reach a
big audience and it is also a
cross media company because
it produces multiple different
types of media. Immediate Media claims that they have employed over 1000 people
and that they operate ‘some of the best-loved brands in the UK’. They also claim that
they engage over ‘87 million global’ consumers ‘each month’ that means that
Immediate Media is a multinational company.

● November 2011: Immediate Media was created and then merged with BBC
Magazines and another company called Origin Publishing, when their
company started they employed 720 staff, in the same year a magazine that
they owned (BBC Good Food Magazine) was named App of the year at the
PPA Digital Awards.

● March 2013: They acquired the UK’S largest triathlon show

● September 2013: The BBC Good Food magazine was named Digital
Magazine of the Year at the PPA Digital Awards and then later on in the year
in November the Radio Times ‘Vote Dalek’ magazine cover was named the
PPA’s Cover of the Century.

● November 2013: Immediate Media partnered with Lego to publish their


brands.

● July 2014: Immediate Media’s magazine Radio Times’ Discover TV and


MadeForMums/Heinz Baby apps win at AOP Awards and then later on in July
2014 they acquired #1 Cycling and craft portfolios from Future plc

● September 2014 They became ‘proud patriots’ of The Prince’s Trust.


● January 2015: they acquired hitched (which is said to be the UK’s #1 digital
wedding planning marketplace) and then later in may 2015 then were named
British Media Awards Company of the Year.

● June 2016: They launched their new ‘creative and content studio’ called
Imagine and later on in July 2016 the magazine Radio Times won Best Native
Campaign at AOP Awards with Netflix.

● January 2017: The company was acquired by Hubert Burda Media, another
media publishing company and then in July of that same year they were
named AOP Digital Publisher of the Year.

● September 2018: They acquired the UK’S number 1 food media brand ‘BBC
Good Food’

● January 2019: They acquired an events company called Upper Street Events
Ltd.

FuturePLC: Immediate Media:

Both of these products compete with each other because they are both cycling magazines.
The main reason that they would compete with each other is because they attract the same
audience. Since they both create the same type of magazine it means that the consumer
would have to decide what one they would like to purchase. Since both these magazines
attract the same audience it makes the companies that own them (Future PLC and
Immediate Media) competing companies.
FuturePLC: Immediate Media:

These two products compete with each other because they are both gardening magazines.
The reason that both of these products would compete with each other is because they will
attract the same audience. Since they both create the theme of the magazine it means that
the consumer would have to decide what one they would like to purchase. Since both these
magazines attract the same audience it makes the companies that own them (Future PLC
and Immediate Media) competing companies.
