As someone who is passionate about the world of TV and Radio, this subject will be perfect

for me. This subject area isn't just an interest for me, it is a passion. From my previous
experience of creating Radio products, I have started to gain more of a passion for this
subject. I look at the BBC with their mass network of TV and Radio stations and I have
always dreamed of working in that industry. When watching TV, I can easily notice small
mistakes that are made or even start to think about what I would do differently. With an
already high amount of skills with using cameras, audio equipment and editing software, I
believe that I will be able to produce work to a high level. This course would let me continue
to improve my skills and later on help me move into working in the professional TV/Radio
industry. With the current rise of radio networks due to the launch of DAB+, the industry is
always looking for more people with a high level or skills. I believe that taking this subject will
continue to improve my skills to a professional level to lead me on to getting a job in the
industry. I have a firm belief that there will be more TV stations launching over the next few
years, these channels will be looking for people to produce their contents. With this course, I
will be able to accomplish this and join the industry.

Currently, I am studying the UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production, this has
advanced my skills in all areas of media production, this includes editing, recording and also
broadcasting. From the UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production, I was graded a
Distinction, this was based off of my Final Major Project which was me creating a one hour
radio show. This gave me hands-on experience in all sectors of radio production while also
helping me improve my skills and knowledge about Radio production. During this, I also had
to present the show, which for me is the best part. It gave me a chance to prove to myself
that I am able to present a long form product, this has influenced me even more to work
towards a job in this industry. During the first year of the UAL course, I have been able to
bring most of my skills to the next level. Throughout the first year, I have used premiere pro
to edit short films, music videos, radio interviews, radio jingles, music & more. This all
heavily improved my skills which has unlocked more opportunities for me. I have also had
hands-on experience with DSLR Cameras, Film Cameras, Zoom Recorders and Radio
Broadcast Equipment, this all has given more the experience I need to move my career
forward. During the extended diploma, one of the products that I am creating is promotional
material for a band. This will help me expand my knowledge and skills in photography and
image editing. I already have a high knowledge of photoshop which will make the photo
editing easier. Also this year, I am creating a documentary. By creating this documentary, I
am hoping to further expand my skills and knowledge in editing and filming, this is a sector of
the media industry that I wouldn’t mind going into.

Outside of my academic studies, I am slowly building up a portfolio of work. I am doing this

by working with local companies for free to create advertisements for their products. This is
giving me more experience and teaching me more skills in communication and also using
software/equipment. I am hoping that I will be successful when doing this because It will give
me more chances to greatly improve my skills in all parts of media production (editing,
photography, filming) and can be used when applying for jobs in the future. I would be
hoping to learn more of this at university. In my spare time, I tend to create small personal
projects with different types of software. While doing this, I am slowly building up my skills
with said software. This also helps me find my own style, this makes it easier for when I am
creating different products to be able to create them in less time, this is because I know the
direction that I want to be taking them. I also regularly look into the industry to build up my
knowledge.

Currently, my communication skills are at a high enough level to be able to work closely with
a group of people to achieve something, examples of this have been my part time jobs. In
every job that I have worked in, I have had to work with a team of people to give the
consumers the best service they can get, this work ethic is something that I follow with
everything I do. In the case of media production, I work to create the best final product
possible. I fully believe that I like to challenge myself. In my Final Major Project for the
Diploma in Creative Media Production, I went against the advice that I was given, I decided
that I wanted to challenge myself with creating an hour-long product instead of a half-hour
product (which is the one I was advised to do), for me, this gave me a chance to put myself
under a fast-paced, high pressured time limit to create a final product.

I am ready to bring my skills, knowledge and work ethic to the university community. I have
built strong relationships with multiple people throughout my part time jobs and also a local
community pantomime group (which I have been apart of for over 6 years), I believe this is
because I am an outgoing and approachable person, this makes it easier for me too build
the connects that I already have. In my current and previous part time jobs, I have made
connections with both staff and customers, examples of this is in my current job, I have a
strong connection with many of the regulars.
