2. In any language classroom, what is the most evident and useful among the
hypotheses?
● I believe that the most evident and useful among all the hypotheses is the
Acquisition Learning Hypothesis. This hypothesis states that in order to be
proficient in a language, one must be exposed to a learning environment
wherein they will naturally acquire the language instead of studying it. Based
on my experience, I learned to improve my ability in English speaking through
the English Only Policy in our high school. We were required to speak English
during discussions and even during breaks in order to help us get used to the
said language.
3. Describe the natural order hypothesis, and give illustrations/scenarios. Discuss its
connection to acquisition of language.
● In the natural order hypothesis, learners acquire the grammatical structures of
the language that they are learning in predictable order. For example, a girl,
who is learning Korean language, can now understand a few words and can
form phrases after spending a month/weeks listening to Korean podcasts.
This situation shows that she is in the second stage of second language
acquisition called Early Production Stage. The girl cannot just improve her
Korean speaking ability without listening to the podcasts especially if she's not
in Korea. In acquiring language, we always start by trying to imitate the
sounds/pronunciation, followed by saying and understanding a few words and
phrases. We must undergo through the stages of acquisition in order to be
unconsciously knowledgeable about the language we wish to speak.
