ii. Give the formula of the ion formed by element ‘X’ in its compound.
c. What is the mass of 0.5 mole of water (H2O)?
OR
a. A beam of alpha-particles is fired at a piece of gold foil as shown below.
3

After striking the gold foil, in which direction do most of the alpha-particles travel? Why?
b. Identify the Na+ ion from the following figures. What is the valency of sodium atom?
Give reason.

c. How many grams of sodium will have the same number of atoms as 6 grams of magnesium?
(Given Na = 23 u, Mg = 24 u)

3
9 a. Give the names of the elements present in the following compounds:

10 Look at the picture given below:

a. Identify the two eminent discoverers shown in the picture above.

b. Thanks to their pioneering work about disease ‘X’ which is caused by ‘Y’, that today it’s no
more considered a chronic condition. What is ‘X’ and ‘Y’?
c. What are the symptoms of the same?

11 a. Observe the diagrams I and II carefully. An object of mass ‘m’ is lifted from A to B to
height ‘h’ along path 1 and path 2. Calculate the work done on the object in both the cases.
Give reason for your answer.

b. A 100g steel ball falls from a height of 1.8m on to a metal plate and rebounds to a height of
