Background: The Xudarian scientist Tomar-Re was recruited into
the Green Lantern Corps to protect sector 2813. While he served as a
successful Green Lantern, Tomar-Re was always haunted by the tragedy
he failed to prevent: the destruction of Krypton. Tomar-Re was one of
the first alien Green Lanterns Hal Jordan met, and the two became good
friends. He was an active leader in the Corps; as prosecutor in the trial
of Sinestro and mentor to many young Green Lanterns, including Arisia
and Katma Tui. During the Great Crisis, Tomar-Re fell in battle against
the Weaponers of Qward. His dying act was to pass his power ring on
to John Stewart.
