a plant in which Kranz anatomy can be seen.
2 Respiratory receptors associated with aortic arch and carotid artery also can 2

Section B
7 Identify the process in the picture given below and label the parts 1,2,3,4. 3

8 In fermentation, say by yeast, the incomplete oxidation of glucose is achieved under 3

anaerobic conditions by sets of reactions where pyruvic acid is converted to CO2 and
ethanol. The enzymes, pyruvic acid decarboxylase and alcohol dehydrogenase catalyse
these reactions. Other organisms like some bacteria produce lactic acid from pyruvic acid.
In animal cells also, like muscles during exercise, when oxygen is inadequate for cellular
respiration pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid by lactate dehydrogenase. The reducing
agent is NADH+H+ which is reoxidised to NAD+ in both the processes. In both lactic acid
and alcohol fermentation not much energy is released; less than seven per cent of the
energy in glucose is released and not all of it is trapped as high energy bonds of ATP.
(i) Name the reducing gent in the process of fermentation
(ii) Fermentation is associated with which type of respiration.
(iii) Does fermentation takes place in Human body?
OR
Study the diagram given below and answer the questions that follow

(i) How many decarboxylation steps are present in Krebs’ cycle?

(ii) Where does Krebs’ cycle take place?
(iii) Which molecule synthesized during Krebs’ cycle is the connecting link
between Protein synthesis and respiration?
9 a) What is emphysema? 3
b) Diffusion of gases occur in the alveolar region only and not in the other
parts of respiratory system. Give any two reasons.
10 Study the diagram given below and answer the questions that follow 3

(i) How can you determine the heart beat rate of an individual from this graph
(ii) What does the P wave indicate?
(iii) Which coronary artery disease is caused due to narrowing of the lumen of
the arteries?
11 The glomerular filtrate in the loop of Henle gets concentrated in the descending 3
limb and then gets diluted in the ascending limb. Explain.
12 Contrast any three characteristic features of skeletal muscles with regard 3
to smooth and cardiac muscles.
Section C
13 a) Mitosis results in producing two cells which are similar to each other. What 5
would be the consequence if each of the following irregularities occurs
during Mitosis?
!. Nuclear membrane fails to disintegrate
2. Duplication of DNA does not occur
3. Cytokinesis does not occur.
b) A cell has 32 chromosomes It undergoes mitotic division. What is the
chromosomal number (N) during metaphase? What would be the DNA content (C)
during anaphase?
OR
Study the diagram given below and answer the questions that follow.

I. In which phase of Prophase-I, we observe synoptonemal complex?

II. In which phase of Prophase-I, do we observe recombination
nodules, the sites at which crossing over occurs?
III. Differentiate between diplotene and diakinesis.
IV. What is the significance of the type of cell division depicted above?

Q No. Section A Marks

1 • In cyclic photophosphorylation(1mark) 2
• It takes place in the stroma lamellae of chloroplast. Because it contains only
PS 1(1mark)
OR
• C4 plants avoid photorespiration which is a wasteful process due to Kranz
anatomy. (1mark)
• Maize/sorghum etc., (1mark)
2 • The H+ ion concentration is high near tissues during respiration(1mark) 2
• It helps in movement of CO2 from tissues to blood(1mark)
3 • Sudden elongation of internodes just before flowering in rosette pants like 2
Cabbage, beet is called bolting. Bolting is caused by Gibberellins (1/ 2 +1/2)
mark)
• Abscisic acid (1mark)
4. 2

Any four labellings 4x1/2 =2

5 • The Atrio-ventricular bundle and (AV bundle) originating from the AV node 2
passes the cardiac impulse to the walls of the ventricle whereas the Atrio-
Ventricular node conveys the impulse from the SA node to the AV bundle
(1/2 + ½ mark)
• Both AV node and AV bundle are triggered by the action potential
that is originated by the SA node(1mark)
OR
• Complete partition of ventricle among birds and mammals results in
complete separation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood(1mark)
• This results in double circulation which is more efficient than single
circulation in other animals. (1mark)
6 • Thymus gland secretes a hormone called thymosin. This gland plays a 2
major role in the development of immune system. (½ + ½ mark)
• But thymus gland gets degenerated in the old individuals resulting in
decreased production of thymosin. As a result, old people have weak
immune system. (1mark) or
• Any other relevant answer.
Q. No Section C Marks

. No Section B Marks

a) Emphysema is a chronic disorder in which alveolar walls are 3

damaged due to which respiratory surface is decreased. (1mark)
b) For efficient exchange of gases, respiratory surface must have
certain characteristics such as
(i) it must be thin,
(ii) permeable to respiratory gases
(iii) It must have large surface area,
(iv) It must be highly vascular.
Only alveolar region has these characteristics. Thus, diffusion of gases
occurs in this region only. Any two reasons (1+1)

(iii) Atherosclerosis. (1mark)
1 . 3
As the filtrate flows in the descending limb, its water is reabsorbed due to
increasing osmolarity of interstitial fluid. The electrolytes are not reabsorbed
here. Thus, the filtrate becomes concentrated as it moves down (11/2 mark)
The ascending limb is impermeable to water but allows transport of
electrolytes actively or passively. Therefore, as the concentrated filtrate
passes upward, it gets diluted due to the passage of electrolytes to the
intestinal fluid. (11/2 mark)
