1. What are the most likely hazards you may encounter while hiking, and what you should do to
anticipate, prevent, mitigate and respond to these hazards?
Hiking is a recreational activity. A vigorous type of walking. Hence, complications can be
expected. Exhaustion, heat stroke, cardiac/respiratory illness attacks, and so much more. In
order to prevent these situations, assure yourself what your body is capable of. Do not decide to
do something you can’t. First aid kits should always be accessible. First aid routines should also
be practiced. TAKE A REST whenever you feel tired. It’s okay to take a pause.
2. Show that you know first aid for injuries or illnesses that would occur while hiking including the
following:
HYPOTHERMIA: Move the person out of the cold by covering them with a warm blanket or cloth.
Use your body heat to warm up and put warm compresses on the neck, chest, and groin.
HEATSTROKE: Remove excess clothing. Bathe in cold water or sponge with cold water. You can
also fan that person. Let the person drink col water to dehydrate.
DEHYDRATION: Restore body fluids to normal level by giving them plenty of water.
SUN BURN: Cool the skin. Apply to the affected skin a clean towel dampened with cool tap
water. · Apply a moisturizer, lotion or gel. Drink water
TICK BITES: Grasp the tick away from the skin (use tweezers); firmly holding it. Wash the bite site
as well as your hands. Dab bite site with alcohol.
3. Make written plan for a 10 mile hike, including map, clothing and equipment list, and list of
items for trail lunch.
