Episode Breakdown

Episode 1: Before the Dark

Jade Wu (Ellie) and Rose Walker (Desire) stop a cursed and wild bull from killing the head quarterback at
a football game. This is when the two are college students. A week later, they meet Alyssa (NPC) who is a
runaway from Texas who was found unclothed with runes cut into her skin. The next night, they order
pizza and Phillip Dunworst (Brandon) enters the game. While he is in the hall delivering a pizza, a dog
covered in glowing runes attacks. Phil is forced to hide inside the girls’ dorm room. The characters figure
that they are not safe and that they need to find a way to stop the people who are sending rune covered
attack animals for them, and why for that matter. Ayssa tells the group that she has visions of the future but
the more she shares the more things change and the less they are helpful. She tells the group they need to
go to “The Starbucks” and meet a man she also says that Phil should call home. When Phil calls home he
saves his Grandma from being killed by runed raccoons – until the call he was reluctant to go with the girls.

When the characters get to “The Starbucks” they notice a large Demon sitting there reading a newspaper
and drinking a generic beer. They talk to him about the rune covered animals and how they can defend
agents them. The Demon, who is named Bob, tells them they will need money and power and for a favor
he can provide both. After some discussion and a misunderstanding between Bob and Phil wherein Phil
gets transported to the top of a very tall building and almost dropped off it, the gang and Bob strike a deal.
The group gets an unlimited credit card and the location to a temple containing artifacts.

They left Alyssa alone while going to speak with the demon, and when they return they find that Rose’s
roommate has had an accident and ended up dead. She “fell” while changing a light bulb and broke her
neck.

The PC’s start to have powers like Alyssa, but they are uncontrollable and not very great as of yet.

They go into a temple under the city, taking Alyssa with them, and get 4 artifacts; Boots of Athletics,
Circlet of Charming, Gauntlet of Titians Might and the Mega Cannon of the Knighted One. While in the
temple, they end up opening some portals to the Realm, a fantasy world of monsters and wizards.

They buy a house, and then Bob tells them about a Vampire Arms dealer named Ach’med. He gets them
many arms and they are happy. The arms dealer pays Phil to take a Kobold named Glitch off of his hands.

Glitch is good at security, so he secures the house. And Jade gets a Boggle named Dolby. Jade also has
some awesome sex with Bob the Demon. Something tries to kill Alyssa in her Dreams.

The Kobold could have done a better job, because a bomb ends up in Alyssa’s room and she is almost
killed. She only just is able to warn Phil of the impending explosion and he saves her. The Paranormal
Investigation Department shows up to inquire about the bomb and the characters lie then get caught
because the PID is good at what they do and then they tell the truth.

They trace the bomb to aliens and they decide to contact them with one of the features of the big gun. They
contact Sub Commander Rylyn and they find out that the person trying to kill them is after Alyssa and that
he is an alien that is of the same race a that Rylyn is. She tells them he is an evil man who will do much
harm on the planet if not caught. Rylyn tells them that there is a Virus that the Enemy can not detect and
that will kill him instantly if it is spread in ten places on the earth at one time, the side effect is however is
that the virus will alter some humans and give them powers. She tells them that they where test subjects
and they lived and that they are needed to be one of the ten to release the virus.

The PC’s open the virus with the 9 others. The Dark happens and the M-Virus is let loose on the world one
week passes while the world is dark, then another week passes while the PC’s get infected and start to
change. Alyssa ends up falling in love with Phil and then when it comes out that her power to see the
future is no longer working she panics that Phil won’t love her back because she is too young and she runs
away.
Episode 2: Reawakened

Storytellers Note:
In all honesty I really did not have a good plan for what this chronicle would become
when I started running it. My first through was perhaps Mage the Awakening then
perhaps a custom mortals plus supernatural game. It was only half way through the first
episode when a crap ton of stuff happened and I was running out of ideas and was really
all over the place that I settled on the After the Dark setting. So starting with Episode 2 I
started with a clear plan and a good idea of where I can take the game in the long term. It
is a testament to how cool Ellie and Brandon are that they kept coming back after the first
game because it did truly suck.

At the start of Episode 2 the PC’s awake in strange rooms. When they leave their rooms they enter a hall
and they recognize all but one person, a cute Redhead girl. They get answers soon enough when they find
out that the M-Virus effects changed the world and that the government made laws that infected people
with powers had to register. Rather then eventually end up as slaves to the government, they signed up
with the Omega Foundation for six years and six figures, and after six years they would be free to do as
they wished. The Redhead is named Scarlet, and the Kobold who was once Phil’s slave is now a part of a
team with them called Strike Force Beta. Jade is now Shade, Rose is now Ruby Aegis and Phil is now
Knight.

They are told they fought and apprehended a villain named Temporal Master., but one of his powers
regressed their minds in time a few months, and that the memories they had are lost as if they never
happened. Through some experimentation, and reading their files, they discover what their super powers
are. Knight’s is that he can’t die. He keeps coming back, though sometimes he comes back a bit wrong.

Jade calls her Boggle and discovers that it is broken and insane. She has the boggle taken away and kept
safe and well cared for. Shade calls Bob and then has a tentative talk with him because apparently they had
not spoken to him in months. He had to kill someone and they wanted to kill him in return. She tells him
they have no memory of that, and after some convincing they bring him into the fold to help them get used
to what is now happening to them.

After a week of getting back on their feet, they are deemed able to do missions again. They go out to try to
find out more about what has happened in the last few months, and while they are out they see a bank
robbery about to happen.

During the fight one of the robbers gets lucky and almost kills Shade, and in response Knight uses extreme
lethal force. He gets reprimanded, as now that they are working for the Omega Foundation such force is
not allowed. Knight, after returning to the building, goes out of his way to try to visit all the restricted
floors of the building, testing his boundaries. When finally he gets to meet Mr. Impossible (head of
security), and he calls Shade to ask what to do with him, she tells Impossible to put him in a holding cell.
She shows up and tells him to stop being so difficult and get over whatever he is having issues about, as
they are a team and it could be a lot worse, so stop pissing me off. He calls her leadership into question,
and she calls the rest of the team down there to confirm that they think she is doing a great job, and he is
out of line. She shortly after that learns that Knight is a 70%er. The only other thing of real note iss that
Knight has some hot Dream sex with Alyssa who they were never able to find.

Storytellers Note:
Most of this Episode was role playing and setting up that the group is now Super Heroes and part of the
Omega foundation. I went out of my way to try and avoid members of the other teams entering the story
because I wanted to focus on Team Beta and the new direction of the story.
Episode 3: Rise of the Nemesis -- Ryan’s first game back from a long gaming break.

Storytellers Note:
At this point I had a good idea of where to go and another player rejoined the group.
With a steady game day and a good group I was recharged and good to go. I started
laying the groundwork for future episodes.

Stryker is introduced to the team, and now they have a full six members, the magic number for an active
team. While teams can have more members, less then five and they would be off mission status. If they
only had five they would be on light mission status.

The group is called to help the Air Force transport an Artifact from Golden Gate City to Los Angeles.

While they are transporting it, the transport jumbo jet is attacked by a huge winged demon. The PC’s fight
it and they are doing only OK until Knight unleashes holy fire with setting 10 on the big gun. The blast
really hurts the demon and blows off the tail section of the jet. Hilarity ensues.

After recovering, the team is called to assist on another bank robbery.

The PC’s can not figure out a good plan to stop the villain who has hostages. They end up letting the MIA
take over but not for lack of trying. If it were not for the Ruby Aegis things would have gone much worse.

In the end the villain escapes and is shot down over the ocean by an MIA ordered missile strike, or so the
heroes think. Later that night, they get a call from Blaster Master, the bank robber. He informs them that
because they would have let the MIA kill him had he not been smart enough to put a hostage in his place,
that he is now their nemesis.

A few other role-playing things happen, and then the finale happens. Shade and Ruby notice that Scarlet
seems to have a crush on Knight, and with that along with some vague hints from Bob, they figure out that
Scarlet is really Alyssa. But before they can really talk to her, things go wrong. In the computer room at
the end of the hall in the Bata apartment floor, Knight puts his foot in his mouth by saying that the Dream
Sex he had with Alyssa did not mean anything, and when Scarlet became upset saying what do you mean it
does not mean anything, Knight stops talking to Scarlet about it because it was private between him and
Alyssa.

Scarlet leaves for her room upset. Shade sends Ruby after Scarlet and she and Stryker stay in the computer
room. Shade is about to share the Scarlet/Alyssa secret with Knight in response to his upsetting comments,
but that has to wait until next episode.

Ruby goes to see Scarlet in her room to talk to her, and when she gets there she is crying while servicing
her sniper rifle. Ruby tries to console her and in doing so she says that she knows that she is Alyssa.
Scarlet looks up and says that she does not know what she is talking about, but Ruby insists. Scarlet looks
sad, and she responds while slowly loading her rifle. “I am sorry Ruby, you know too much,” she says as
she pulls the trigger.

Storytellers Note:
This episode ended with a cliffhanger. Desire is about to get shot and be very dead, and
the drama is really ramped up in the story, and most of the players are thinking omg,
what the hell, what is Scarlet doing?!
Episode 3.5: No not the Children – Saturday, and Will, Dayna, and Jason’s first game.

Desire: Roswell.
Will: Trick Shot soon to become Trigger Happy after being paid 100 bucks by Bob.
Dayna: Geode
Jason: Long Shot

They are put on a temp / training /test team and they are looked after by a girl named
Facet. They end up going out on a mission to investigate a warehouse.
At the warehouse they shoot what they think are mutant midgets but turn out to be
children who are dumping body parts into the ocean.

After the shooting starts the Flaming Sproing and Meep attack. They fight the bad guys
off and rescue about a dozen other children who are Meta-humans. They were rescued
from the bad place (MIA Reach house, a kind of orphanage), and had the job of playing
the Matching Game (Sorting Body Parts.) Roswell talks to a little girl named Molly that
says Sproing rescued her from the bad place.

Trick Shot is badly injured during the fight, and wakes up in the infirmary to find that
they have transferred his consciousness into a metal robot body called a Shell. They tell
him that it is fragile, and he needs to be very careful with it. Not happy with that, he goes
to Long Shot, the de facto team leader, and asks him to outfit him with weapons from the
armory. When Long Shot is hesitant to do so, not knowing how much force the Shell can
withstand, Trick Shot goes to his buddies in the Army Corp of Engineers, thinking they
will be able to hook him up. When he comes back 3 weeks later, Director Cross is very
displeased with him, and gives Shade an off switch for him.
Episode 4: Emergency -- Ryan has to work so he is not at the game.

Storytellers Note:
So for this episode we have 3 new players very unexpectedly. I actively recruited one
and it turned out he had two friends. Will, Dayna and Jason were the new players. So
with the addition of three new people I now had a very strong group and could keep the
story strong even if one person could not make it. I was very happy with the status of the
group.

In this episode the Omega Foundation is attacked, by explosions and missiles and a nuke,
oh my! That, combined with Scarlet going psycho, is the perfect storm of an attack.
Scarlet running away and the bombing of the building are two unrelated incidents. Ruby
Aegis is dead along with Glitch, and Stryker is gravely injured while saving Shade.

The rest of the episode is finding Scarlet and trying to help her. After she is returned to
the Omega Foundation, Director Cross (who happens to be Scarlet’s father) orders Shade
to have Roswell wipe everyone’s memory of Scarlet’s secret. Nobody in the group is
comfortable with this, but Yes from Team Delta shows up and says he’ll have to stop
them if they try to mess with Cross’ mind to convince him they did what he asked.
Instead, Bob calls in a favor with Cross and gets him to back off.

Roswell decides she wants to try to heal Scarlet’s insanity, so she decides to get some
advice from the most powerful mentalist she knows of, Puppetmaster from Delta. As
soon as she meets him, she regrets asking for his help, as his personality is unbelievably
unpleasant. After touching his mind so that he can assess her power level and better
advise her, she wishes she could scrub it with bleach.

The Episode ends with Roswell trying to heal Scarlet and getting trapped in her head with
her mean alter ego. (Another Cliff Hanger involving Desire) HAHA!

Episode 5: Team Work -- July 4th Dayna and Jason are out of town.
This Episode
 Knight discovers that he can heal people now, though it hurts him more than it
heals them. After using his ability, he asks the medics to help him. They shrug,
and inject him with a lethal dose of medicine, waiting for him to reset.
 Due to the Nuke exploding over the Omega Towers, an MIA auditor is assigned
to observe the Omega Foundation’s procedures.
 Stryker gets better when Knight heals him and he is back to work.
 A villain named Kay Rend e-mails a bomb threat to the Omega Foundation.
 Zippy from team Gamma enters the story and helps Beta track down Kay Rend.
 The group fights Kay Rend, who is hard to kill, hard to capture, and makes people
loose consciousness through the power of stupid. Oh, and she also has Cunt
sharks. No, you didn’t read that wrong. They’re sharks, and they come out of her
hoo-hoo.
 They lose to Kay Rend, as her infectious stupidity knocks them all out. When
they wake up, she is gone, and there is a note on the door written by Master
Blaster. It simply says “There will be more” and is signed BM. Just as they read
this note, they get blown up by a bomb.
 In the aftermath of the Kay Rend incident, the MIA auditor that has been poking
around sees Scarlet and Knight holding hands.
 The team gets Zippy to trace Kay Rend’s cell phone, and find that she is either at
a coffee shop or the bowling alley she threatened to blow up. They rush to the
bowling alley, and Stryker heroically teleports in, and teleports back out with the
bomb, saving the innocent people inside and getting blown up again in the
process.
 When the team returns, Shade is informed that Scarlet and Knight have to be on
separate teams because they are romantically involved. Scarlet goes to the newly
formed Team Gamma.
 Team Beta gets a call to help team Delta, as some of their team members are busy
in Texas.
 They help team Delta kill a huge demon in Pac-Bell park. Knight, heroically (and
stupidly) taking the first attack, gets knocked into space and then knocked back by
a satellite to damage the demon with his corpse.
 After the demon fight, during which Roswell is severely injured and Bob saves
Stryker’s life by wakening and sending in another demon named Oblivion, Kay
Rend knocks them out by a sound booth and a loud speaker. When they wake up
and investigate, they get blown up again.
 Meanwhile, Oblivion is just happy that he was actually taken out by Kay Rend’s
attack, because that never happens and it was a novely.
 Knight, who has been complaining repeatedly about people deciding to kill him
when he has been injured in order to get him back to full strength quickly, finally
realizes that there may be times when it is called for, and tells Shade she has his
permission to make that decision on his behalf.
 Eugene finishes a portal that leads to the Realm, and Stryker has an interesting
meeting with Shadow.
 Knight also has an interesting meeting with Shadow, and becomes a follower of
this Avatar of “Adventure.”
 The Pc’s find out that the Army Corp of Engineers has invented a very deadly
weapon that can kill Meta-Humans, known as the LAME gun. It is being kept in
Area 51.
 The Pc’s try to figure out how to get into area 51 and not get caught, and they end
the game on this dilemma.

At the end of episode 5: Team Work, the Heroes were left with a tricky task of trying to
figure out how to break into area 51 without being caught. I go ahead and tell some of
the players that it is an impossible task unless A: someone has a crazy good idea or B:
they go to a Demon and make a contract. But I am thinking in reality this is not going to
happen so I move the story forward.
Episode 5.25: Strike Force Gamma -- Saturday July 10th – Jason and Dayna catch up
game.
 This episode happens mostly during the events of Episode 5: Team Work
 Geode and Long Shot assist team Gamma while they get settled in as the newest
Strike Force Team.
 Roswell joins Geode and Long Shot as Gamma’s leader Rex asks for extra help.
 Rex has the three of them join his team for a few days while they get used to how
the Omega Foundation operates.
 They find Rex to be a nice guy and a capable leader, if a bit blunt at times.
 Rex is contacted by a villain named Sinister Sodium who wants to meet his team
at The Starbucks, and asks for Geode, Long Shot and Roswell to accompany his
team because he has no experience with this sort of negotiation.
 When they reach The Starbucks and see Sinister Sodium, Roswell approaches
him, followed by Geode, while Long Shot waits by the door.
 SS’s offer is simple. He is part of a criminal organization of 10%’ers called
MACE (Meta-human Alliance Criminal Enterprise). He is upset that his group is
about to allow a group of Goblins to join, because after all they have standards,
and Goblins eat children. That’s just downright uncivilized.
 The group gets the impression that even though Sodium is evil, he really isn’t
such a bad guy. His offer is that if the heroes will eliminate the possibility of the
Goblins joining his group, he will answer five questions about MACE, as long as
those answers will not get him killed. He will also tell the group about something
another villain is up to that he is sure they will be interested in.
 Aleeya, a high elf paladin member of Team Gamma, confirms that Goblins are
disgusting creatures, and they shouldn’t have qualms about exterminating them.
 After a hushed discussion by the door, the group agrees to the terms, and asks
their questions. They find out what MACE stands for, and that it has 3 leaders at
any given time. The leaders get to be leaders by killing or eliminating the
previous leaders, and might makes right in their organization. Also, those three
leaders vote on policy. The closest analogue to MACE that the group has heard
of seems to be organized crime.
 After answering their questions about MACE, Sodium fills them in on one Baron
Pestilence. The Baron, who is being funded by and is in some way connected to
a company called Gentech, is collecting Meta-human children from Reach Houses
and using them in his nefarious schemes.
 When asked why he is betraying Baron Pestilence, SS says that using children is
just plain wrong, furthering the impression that he is not such a bad guy, for a
10%’er.
 The group goes to the warehouse where Sodium says the Goblins will be, and
with the help of some Napalm, some grenades, and a rocket launcher, kills all of
the Goblins, including a wizard that had charmed some office workers. Roswell
gets a shiny magic ring, and the Omega Foundation gets some good press from
the office workers they rescued.
 There is a television interview with a meta-human named Jill Thrill who seems to
be manipulating her interviewer, possibly using a power.
Episode 5.50: The Rescue – Sunday July 11th
 The leaders of all of the teams, even Alpha from the East Coast, are called to a
meeting. Among other things, they discuss the information about MACE, and
Freedom from Team Alpha explains that they have a big presence in his area.
 Facet tells team Beta that they need to be at a specific address at a specific time,
and that when the shit hits the fan they need to trust Raul Johnson.
 Trigger Happy is being retested by the MIA, who have received a tip that he is a
10%’er and want to verify this. Meanwhile, Knight is at a psychiatric retreat for a
few days, dealing with some issues brought up by his constant death and
resurrection.
 The rest of Team Beta goes to the warehouse as requested, and right at the given
time they meet a Wizard who Facet has instructed to give them rings of
invisibility.
 They put on 4 of the 6 rings, assuming the uses of the other two will become
apparent later, and sneak into the warehouse with some difficulty. Inside, they
find about 20 meta-humans that are imprisoned and have been tortured. The place
has quasi military guards, and seems to be a secret government facility.
 Among the captured meta-humans is Meep, a 10 year old girl named Jill, and a
teenage boy named Milo who happens to be a were-ape.
 After contacting Milo and Jill mentally and assuring them she will help them
escape, Roswell convinces the others that the two children are the ones they are
there so rescue, and they start trying to come up with a plan to get them out of
their cells.
 Meanwhile, Milo is dragged into another room, where they start poking him with
sharp needles of various substances until they find his weakness, Jade. The other
injuries seem to heal almost instantly, but the Jade needle burns him, and the
wound does not heal.
 Then, while a horrified Shade watches, they poke out his eye to see if it will
regenerate. Then, they leave his unconscious body on the table, planning to put
him back in his cell later.
 Team Beta rescues the two children, though when they bring Milo to the
infirmary they find out that he has brain damage.
 They inform Director Cross of what has happened, after getting some advice from
Yes, and he sends the Deltas to investigate the facility and rain fire down on it.
He asks Shade to inform him immediately if there seem to be any repercussion
from the incident.
 Jill seems to think that some very bad men are coming after her, and the group
agrees to protect her. They are not sure why Facet sent them for her, but they
can’t help but want to protect her. Long Shot gives her a teddy bear that is low-
jacked, and Geode gets her lots and lots of Lucky Charms, her favorite cereal.
 The group all notices that Jill seems confused about days, and sometimes refers to
things that have not happened yet. Geode asks Matt to watch over Jill whenever
possible, and he jokingly tells her she’ll owe him $10 an hour for babysitting.
 Sinister Sodium contacts the group again, and tells them when and where R, one
of the leaders of MACE will be. He tells them to bring a lot of backup, so they
contact each of the other teams. Of them all, only Delta is available.

Episode 5.75: The Secret – Tuesday July 13th – Desire’s Birthday game very last minute.
 Bob asks Shade to look after his 70%’er cousin, a half demon named Joe who also
goes by the name Urine Luck. He warns her to keep him away from any pools at
all costs.
 The group gets a call from the PID who wants some assistance with something,
and when they show up they find out that 6 people have been killed in the last
hour, generally in a straight line. All 6 have had a chunk of their flesh removed
from the neck, causing them to bleed out almost instantly.
 While the group is investigating, a 7th body is found, also in the same general
path. While discussing how to get ahead of the killer without knowing where he
or she is going, they hear a giggle, and see that Jill has stowed away in the back of
the van.
 Jill tells them to go to the Pony, and when they quickly consult a map, they find a
Pony Avenue in the right general area, so they head there quickly. They spot a
meta-human skulking nearby, and when Roswell enters his mind she hears him
thinking about lucky number 8.
 A very nasty battle ensues, starting the first meta-human they spotted, who has
chaos effect. Soon, two more villains show up and join in the fun, the Flaming
Sproing and a balloon shaped villain who rolls down the street and seems to be
able to split, and to heal the chaos guy.
 Matt, who was along for the ride, initially decides to sit this one out so he can
observe the Beta’s fighting, with Jill beside him, but when the other villains show
up he realizes he is needed and joins in the fray along with Jill. They focus on the
balloon guy.
 The chaos guy has an area effect that is hurting a good portion of the team, as well
as Jill. Meanwhile, Urine Luck has wandered off in search of a pool. He finds
one, but Kay Rend happens to be there, and attacks him with Cunt sharks and her
toxic stupidity.
 During the battle, Jill seems to be in more than one place at once.
 Urine Trouble is eventually knocked out in the pool by Kay Rend’s stupidity, and
is then eaten by her sharks. Shade, who went after him to make sure he was ok, is
followed by the Flaming Sproing, who is also knocked out by Kay Rend, who
then gets away.
 One of the Jills intercepts Jill Thrill and tells her she can’t be there. Shade and
Roswell also approach Jill Thrill, and it seems that she is about to attack, but
when she realizes how weakened Team Beta is, she decides it is not enough of a
challenge for her and leaves. Clearly, the group is going to have to fight her
sometime, but they are just happy it won’t be then.
 The Chaos guy is taken down, and when the balloon guy is mostly defeated, part
of him bounces down the street and gets away.
 Before the MIA shows up to clean everything up, Oblivion calls Yes and has him
take the Flaming Sproing back to the Omega Foundation, and Shade convinces
the owner of the pool not to mention him.
 Back at the Omega Foundation, the group interrogates the Flaming Sproing, who
is working for Baron Pestilence. In exchange for going to a more lax facility than
Stronghold, he will give them useful information about his boss.
 Unable to make that promise themselves, Shade and Long Shot approach Director
Cross. He scolds them for breaking protocol, while giving them a discreet thumbs
up. He also tells them to low-jack Sproing, and then set him free after getting the
information from him.
 Shade tells Bob what happened to his cousin, and Bob is very unhappy, though he
can’t completely blame her. He goes back to London.
 Geode and Roswell go to check on Jill, and she reveals she is Jill Green, the first
meta-human, and she is being hunted by the government. She exists in any and
all points of time at the same time, but is trapped at her current age. There are
other versions of her, however, that have found a way out of the trap. Jill Thrill
and Facet are two of those other versions. Geode and Roswell agree not to tell
anyone about this, except for Long Shot and Shade, who need to know as the
team leaders.
 Oblivion warns Geode that the Deltas may have a problem with Jill, and promises
to let her know as soon as they decide what to do about it.
