Activity 1-1
It is now your moment. What is the meaning of the
term “globalization” to you? What are the words that appear in
the above definitions numerous times? Fill up the blanks below
with your understanding of globalization.

My own meaning on globalization…

Globalization is the interdependence between people, businesses, and
governments around the world that often affects economic, cultural, and human
interaction development and prosperity. It had existed since ancient times, as people have
found distant places to settle, produce and trade goods. It is a process that is often driven
by international trade and investment, providing a free flow of trade relations that makes
it easy for businesses to set up new business ventures and relationships within or outside
their countries. It interconnects separate markets around the world, making the world one
giant market. Interconnection and integration allow businesses and countries not only to
share but also to learn valuable information that is useful for their improvement.
Globalization is complex, multifaceted, and also divisive because its greatest advantage is
also its worst disadvantage but if not exploited, it is a change that could make economies
all around the world equally successful. Some people, the anti-globalization activist, see
globalization as a threat that could bring many disadvantages, but it is a change that could
be the solution to some of the biggest problems in the world, such as poverty if properly
implemented. Globalization has made the world smaller making it possible for countries
and their leaders to communicate better. It serves as a bridge for more efficient and easier
trading of useful knowledge, goods, cultures, and much more between different nations.
Aided by technology and the Internet, it is the interconnection and unification that has
brought the world a little closer to each other that, in exchange, fosters economic,
political, cultural development and growth.

I AM A PRO-GLOBALIZATION. We all know that globalization does not only affect a

certain part of the world but affects the whole world itself as it interconnects and
integrates the economy, politics, and even cultures of different countries. There
are different benefits brought by the interconnection as countries become much
closer with each other despite the distance. It is one of the most important
changes that have occurred and is occurring as it continues to influence how
people engage in trade, industry, technology, and much more. It provides
opportunities not only to developed or more industrialized countries but also to
developing or third-world countries. Globalization-created interconnection and
integration have turned the entire world into a giant market rather than having
separate markets that created greater opportunities for businesses around the
world. Globalization has provided more exposure to capital flows, technology,
human resources, cheaper imports, and wider export markets that have given
companies the ability to improve and exhibit their goods to a larger market since
international borders are open for exports and imports. The presence of problems
does not impede the fact that globalization is of great importance. As we continue
to live and survive in this ever-changing world, globalization has made it easier for
us to obtain what we need, even if it's produced from the other side of the world.
Globalization is a change that will continue to shape and evolve our way of living
and for us to fully experience its importance, we must be able to use it properly
without exploiting it.

The Philippines is interested in various products in its territories. From

grain to raw materials and crafts, our country is undeniably rich in natural
resources. It is normal in any country that not all items are produced
throughout. Because the Philippines is an island nation, there are various
constraints to self-production. Even if it is manufactured in the Philippines,
the raw materials will come from elsewhere. Every country has this type of
structure, which means that every resource is not available to them.
Certain items, such as rattan crafts, dried mangoes, and ube sweets, are
manufactured in the Philippines because the raw materials required are
readily available. The same is true for imported goods - other nations have
raw resources that are not generally available in our country, and we are
exporting goods that we do not have.
