VI. RATIONALE: Assessment plays an important role in the process of learning and
motivation. Well-designed assessment methods provide valuable
information about student learning and achievement. They tell us what
students learned, how well they learned it, and where they struggled.

Assessment promotes, enhances and improves the quality of student

learning through feedback that is clear, informative, timely, constructive and
relevant to the needs of the student.

With the continuing threat of Covid-19 in the country and the world, schools
must adopt assessment and grading practices that can most meaningfully
support student development and respond to varied contexts at this time.
The Department of Education (DepEd) ensures the continuous improvement
of its systems to ensure that learners have access to quality basic education,
DepEd issued DepEd Order No.012, s.2020 titled Adoption of the Basic
Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) for School Year (SY) 2020-2021
in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

To supplement the said DO, the DepEd issues the Interim Policy Guidelines

Continuity Plan to provide guidance on the assessment of student learning
and on grading scheme to be adopted this school year.
