This document is an ethics assignment submitted by Marc Luis Cartoneros for Professor Marvin Gervacio's Module 1. It addresses two questions. [1] The first question asks if depicting Jesus in an offensive artwork is an ethical issue. Marc Luis argues that it is an ethical issue as it causes conflict within societal principles and offends Christian believers. [2] The second question asks if the wrongness of such a depiction depends on which religion one belongs to. Marc Luis argues that the wrongness does not depend on religion, as intentionally disrespecting or ridiculing someone's religious beliefs crosses an ethical boundary and should not be condoned regardless of religious affiliation.

1. It is an ethical issue because what the man just did has caused conflict within the principles of society. Even let’s say it was just an art he should not get away with it because the picture symbolizes Jesus and he lies within us. Jesus symbolizes us as Christians and what he just did offend not only one person but the Christian believers as a whole. Arts should only be meant to express one’s creativity and passion or insights about anything but don’t involve religion in such malicious arts as these. No matter how hard I tried to look at it from many angles so that it can look okay to me unfortunately I can’t accept it, it’s way too low. No matter what religion we are in if someone did something that means disrespecting what we believe in. It would be counted as an ethical issue because just like what I have said earlier the issue caused conflict within the society. These acts like these shouldn’t be condoned everyone must get a fair share of respect in which they believe in as long as it won’t affect the lives of the others. 2. Does the question of the rightness or wrongness of this depends on which religion you belong to? Explain your answer.
2. No, it doesn't depend on which religion one is in this is very
disrespectful. Just because they don’t believe in the other religion’s customs doesn’t mean they can disrespect them as they please, we should give a fair share of courtesy in one’s things that they believe in. Let’s say it was just an opinion which is very cliche or should I say overused when talking about giving an opinion to the things someone believes in. Someone can only accept your opinion if it won't affect their life or if your opinions won’t cross boundaries and may offend someone else's beliefs. So that’s it, the wrongness of it doesn't depend on which religion one is into as long as you have crossed your boundaries and maliciously made fun of someone else's beliefs. Just like what I have said earlier even if it was just art it should not be condoned. Art wasn't meant to purposely make fun of somebody else's beliefs this also goes to other religions not only in the violated religion. Not anyone will do it if they're in their good state of mind one must respect in order to get peace, and one shouldn't have to disrespect others else's beliefs if it feels inappropriate to them pay no mind with it and learn how to give respect.
