 have been in the eye of the storm for months,
playing a key role in amplifying or localizing
national public health messaging, reassuring
communities and supporting employees as
they get to grips with very different ways of
working on the frontline or at home
 Base them on your organization’s values to
remind people that in challenging times it’s
important to hold onto core values and
behaviors that should run through your
organization like letters in a stick of rock
 Keep it simple and concise
 KISS – Keep it simple and short/stupid
 The simplest explanation for a strategy is that
it’s a piece of work that outlines where an
organisation is now, where it needs to get to
and how it’s going to get there
 Stay clear and focused on what you do know,
rooted in what was important to you
 Doing “everything” is not an option
 Focus on: new approaches; a better
understanding of the role and value; new
ways of working;
 Don’t get overwhelmed by the scale of the
challenge
 Don’t reinvent the wheel
 Underpinning all your proactive, planned
work is the ongoing reality of living with a
pandemic
 The most important factor in
preventing the spread of the COVID-
19 is to empower the people with the
right information
 There is an overabundance of information
leading to 'infodemic‘
 During a pandemic there is a lot of false
information around therefore it is vital to
have a dedicated COVID-19 information
portal
 Be Brief

 Be Positive
 Label Your Feelings
 Offer an Understanding Statement
 Take Partial Responsibility
 Offer to Help
 Clarity comes from clean lines of
communication. Responding to people
promptly is a mark of good leadership and
communication
 Communicating promptly and clearly is a
mark of integrity, respect, and leadership
Principle 2: Be Direct
in Your
Communication
Principle 3: Follow
Through
 Reinforce intent with body language
 Encourage feedback — and then take it
seriously
 Protect your reputation
 Create a compelling story
 Keep conversations up with your teams and
your customers
 Keep everything centralized and accessible
 Keep on top of your crisis communication
strategy
 Keep communications personalized
 Keep showing your audiences you care
 It’s a time of transition for everyone right
now, and we believe passionately that those
who take on this challenge and use it as a
springboard for improving this essential
element of their organization will come out of
the other side of this situation in a stronger
position
