The leak is measured by how much leakage it will pass under a given set of conditions, as leakage will vary with
conditions. At a given temperature, the product of pressure and volume of a given quantity of gas is proportional
to its mass. Therefore, leak rate is often expressed as the product of some measure of pressure and volume
per unit of time. The basic SI units used in leak testing are pressure-Pascal (1N/m 2), Volume in m3 and time in
seconds.
The fluid quantity can thus be expressed as Pascal cubic meter (pa.m3) and the fluid leakage rate as
Pascal cubic meter per sec (Pa.m3/s) or in terms of Std. cc/s (0.1 Pa.m3/s). Si unit for vacuum is Pa. (132
pa is 1 mm of Hg = 1 Torr). Table -1 & 2 illustrate the conversion of leakage measurement and pressure
units.
