WHAT IS OBESITY?
Obesity is a disease wherein a person has excessive body fat. The cause of obesity is when a

person consumes a large amount of food but does not burn off through physical activities.

HOW TO DETERMINE OBESITY?

We can determine obesity through the Body Mass Index:

 BMI less than 18.5 = underweight

 18.5 to < 25 = Healthy Weight Range

 25.0 to < 30 = Overweight Range

 Higher than 30.0 = Obesity Range

FORMULA FOR BMI

Metric: BMI= weight (kg) / [height (m)]²

Imperial: BMI= 703 x weight (lbs) / [height (in)]²

FACTORS CAUSING OBESITY

 Genetics

 Physical Inactivity

 Overeating

 Frequency of Eating

 Medications

 Psychological Factors (negative thinking, poor emotional management, low self-worth

etc.)

SYMPTOMS OF OBESITY

 Difficulty in Sleeping

 Joint Pains
 Excessive Sweating

 Heat Intolerance

 Fatigue

 Depression

RISKS ASSOCIATED TO OBESITY

Obesity cannot only cause high blood pressure (hypertension), type 2 diabetes, coronary

heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease and osteoarthritis; it can also cause death

(mortality) to some people.

TREATMENT

Obesity can be treated with some weight-loss medication approved by the U.S Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) like Bupropion/Naltrexone, Liraglutide and Orlistat however, natural

treatments are still highly advised:

 Healthy eating plan and engaging regularly in physical activities

 Weight management programs

 Drinking plenty of water

 Adding protein to your diet

 Limiting the sugar intake

 Avoiding processed foods
