INTRODUCTION

The present research work is based on OBESITY, its causes, consequences

and in turn the treatment to follow for people who have this disease.

One of the most common problems associated with the current lifestyle is
excess Weight.

The obesity epidemic, which causes the increase in diabetes, is driven largely
by two trends that go hand in hand: A change in the population's eating habits
(increased consumption of energy-dense foods rich in saturated fat, sugars, and
salt) And the reduction in physical activity (between 30 and 60% of the
population in the Americas do not reach the recommended minimum level of
physical activity, such as walking for 30 minutes a day).

the purposes is of monographic work is to make people reflect on their health

and above all to become aware that it is a very dangerous disease that can
even lead to death.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWOR

1. THE OBESITY

Obesity is a disease which causes you to have an excess of adipose tissue,

making your body mass index greater than 30.

Obesity is a threat to life, it is a progressive and chronic disease of

epidemic proportions that affects everyone.

2. BODY MASS INDEX (BMI)

Body mass index (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly

used to classify overweight and obesity. It is defined as a person's weight in
kilograms divided by the square of his height in meters (kg/m2).

3. CAUSES

It is generally accepted that the cause of obesity is an energy imbalance

between the calories consumed and the calories expended through exercise
and activities of daily living. so the body stores excess calories in the form of fat.

 Age: As you age, hormonal changes and a less active lifestyle contribute to
the onset of obesity.
 Female sex. Mainly associated with pregnancy and menopause. Obesity
also occurs in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome, which is an
endocrine condition that prevents proper ovulation.
 Sedentary lifestyle: There is a decrease in physical activity due to a
sedentary lifestyle due to the automation of work activities, modern means
of transport and greater urban life.
 Socio-cultural factors. Obesity is associated with a lower educational level
and lower income level linked to limited access to recreational facilities and
a lack of money to buy healthy foods.
 Behavioral factors: Improper food consumption, smoking and alcohol
intake.
 Genetic factors. Some genetic studies have determined that obesity can be
inherited with genes that influence the amount of body fat and its
distribution.
 Certain medications: Some medications may cause weight gain but are
compensated by diet or exercise. These include some antidepressants,
anticonvulsants, steroids, antipsychotics, diabetes medications, and beta
blockers.
4. CONSEQUENCE

 Diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

 Cardiovascular diseases.
 Diseases of the liver and gallbladder.
 Lung diseases
 Cancer
 Diseases of the bones and joints.
 Reproductive alterations.

5. TREATMENT

Treatment of obesity must be comprehensive and multidisciplinary to achieve

and maintain a healthy weight, including changes in the dietary regimen and
increased physical exercise.

 Diet:
Reduce calorie intake
Making healthier food choices
Limit the consumption of more caloric foods.
Plan meals.

 Physical exercise:
Schedule physical exercise.
Reduce sedentariness.

 Alternative treatments
Pharmacological treatment
Surgical treatment
Psychological treatment

People who are overweight and obese have been

subjected to jokes and occasional discrimination,
found guilty of suffering from their condition. while
that the truth is that they have been victims of a disease that
affects not only the physical aspect of life, but
also the emotional and behavioral aspect, a disease that
is now considered and treated as "a deadly disease,
chronic and progressive in epidemic proportions."
