WHAT IS OBESITY?

• Obesity is a medical condition characterized by an excessive amount of body fat, which puts an
individual's health at risk. Obesity is generally determined by measuring a person's body mass index
(BMI), which is calculated using their weight and height. A BMI of 30 or above is considered obese.
WHAT CAN OBESITY CAUSE?

• Obesity can lead to several health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure,
stroke, sleep apnea, and some types of cancer. Factors that can contribute to obesity include a genetic
predisposition, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet, hormonal imbalances, and certain medical
conditions or medications
HOW SERIOUS IS OBESITY

• Obesity is a serious medical condition that can have significant health consequences. It increases the risk
of developing several chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,
stroke, liver disease, sleep apnea, and some types of cancer. Obesity can also increase the risk of
complications during surgery or pregnancy and can have a negative impact on mental health and quality
of life.
HOW CAN OBESITY BE SOLVED?

• 1. Diet modifications: Adopting healthy eating habits by choosing nutrient-dense foods and limiting the
intake of high-calorie foods and sugary drinks can be helpful. It may also be helpful to calculate the
number of calories necessary to maintain a healthy body weight and sticking to the caloric goals. 2.
Physical activity: Regular physical activity can aid obesity management by burning excess calories and
improving physical fitness. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of
vigorous aerobic activity per week. 3. Behavioral therapy: Behavioral therapy, such as cognitive-
behavioral therapy, can help individuals identify triggers for overeating, manage stress, and improve
their self-esteem. 4. Prescription medication: Your healthcare provider can prescribe medication to aid in
weight loss if lifestyle changes alone are not sufficient. 5. Surgery: In severe cases, weight-loss surgery
may be an option. Procedures such as gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery can help individuals
achieve significant weight loss and improve overall health. It's important to remember that obesity is a
