1. Describe Michael Ochs’ photo of Marilyn Monroe.

- It’s Marilyn Monroe wearing red lipstick with her blonde hair and enormous black
earrings. Her skin was emphasized because of the color background and the accessories
she wore.
2. Describe the collage artwork by Geovanni Abing based on Ochs’ photo.
- I can see that it is a digital collage. Although the colors he used were vibrant, they still
emphasize the subject. Also, the medium he used was technology.
3. Compare the two. What qualities of contemporary art are manifested in Abong’s work?
- Basically, a photo or picture is a representation of things, people, etc. while a collage is a
large number of pictures that create a new picture, it’s like pictures within pictures. The
qualities of contemporary art that I have noticed in Abong’s were the medium he used to
create the art and the originality is not an “issue” between the two artists. Abang used the
technology to combine pictures and magazines and show the image of Marilyn Monroe.
Obviously, they just have the same subject, but Abang improved his work and used a
different set of materials.
