ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This is the most satisfying yet the most difficult part of the seminar to write-
gratifying because printed words serve as attestation, difficult because they fail to
convey the real influence others have had on one’s life or work.

First and foremost we would like to express our whole hearted thanks to the
invisible, the indomitable God for his blessings showered upon us in enabling us to
complete the seminar on time.

We would like to extend our heartiest thanks to the management and

(Director,TIST), who provided us with necessities for the completion of the seminar.

We feel highly privileged in making a mention of Preethi Thekkath

(Principal, TIST) for his co-operation and help.

We are deeply indebted to Prof. Mangala (H.O.D., EEE) for the inspiration
inculcated in us and for the apt guidance.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our project guide Asst. Prof.
Aishwarya V,(Dept. Of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, TIST ), for their
meticulous guidance and support that helped us in the completion of our seminar.

We also stand grateful to all the teaching and non-teaching staff and fellow
students for their constant help and support.
ABSTRACT

.
The power quality in industry is actually of a greater importance
due to the presence of sensitive loads like computers, protection relays,
measurement and other electronic devices operated near the high-power
nonlinear loads. One of the most important aspects of this quality is
related to the harmonic distortion of voltage and current waves with the
well-known negative consequences on the industrial power system
components and its operating efficiency. This paper analyses the effects
on the quality of electrical energy of the multipulse rectifiers used to
supply some electrical high-power drives as main components of the
production process, involved in the driving of the rolls of the scraper from
a hot strip mill. The measurement results show clearly the advantage of
the presence of the 6-pulse and 12-pulse rectifiers during the fast
transient conditions of slab lamination.
