CONTENT

1. SCOPE OF WORK

The purpose of this job method statement is to establish the safe work method for T6008 crack repair
using thermoplastic welding method. Details of activity are as follow:

Date of work : 6th January 2021


Location : T6008
Description : Crack repair using thermoplastic welding

2. METHOD AND SEQUENCE OF WORK

Repair schedule:
Date/ Day Activity Description
5th January 2021/ Tuesday 1. Drain out T6008
2. Ventilation
6th January 2021/ Wednesday Repair activity
7th January 2021/ Thursday Fill up T6008 & normalized service water system

2.1 Pre repair work


1. Service water pump to be shut & blind during this activity. Water for service water system will be
directly provide by SAJ – SAJ water pressure 3.5 bar.
2. Empty out tank & carry out ventilation.
3. Outlet spool piece to be removed – item to be replaced with stainless steel flexible hose after
repair work completed.
4. Remove all putty patching at crack area – outside tank wall.

Thermoplastic welding to be apply on outside & inside tank wall at crack area:

Outside tank wall:


1. Carry out surface preparation.
2. Drill stop hole at both 80mm crack tip.
3. Using 240 v equipment, apply thermoplastic welding to the crack.

Inside tank wall:


1. Confined Spaced Entrance Permit & Hot Work Permit shall be obtain.
2. Personnel must be wearing basic PPE, body harness & respirator while entering & during the
repairing activity inside the tank.
3. Carry out surface preparation.
4. Using 240 v equipment, apply thermoplastic welding to the crack.
5. Housekeeping all debris which generate from activity.
Note:
i. Thermoplastic welding generate very low fumes.
ii. Thermoplastic welding will take 30 minute for completed.

2.3 Post repair work


1. Install stainless hose to replaced outlet pipe spool.
2. Shut tank drain spout, fully open outlet valve & fill up the tank.
3. Once the tank is full, shut SAJ bypass valve.
4. Priming service water pump, start the pump & ensure water supply at 6 bar.

3. SAFETY PRECAUTION
1. Pre entry & continues gas test will cover internal & surrounding tank area.
2. Wearing of body harness is compulsory for working in confined spaces.
3. Using of walkie-talkie for communication between Authorized Entrance & Standby Person.
4. Authorized Entrance to be equipped with gas detector throughout this activity.
5. Always maintain 3 point contact when use the ladder.
