I. COURSE TITLE: PE 2- RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES

II. COURSE OVERVIEW:

A. INTRODUCTION

This course will give you emphasis on how important exercise to individual in maintaining the body to
become physically, mentally, socially, emotional and spiritually healthy. Through this module, a
wellorganized and properly administered physical education program for universities and colleges were
given emphasis.
Through these concepts, it was realized that the need to educate individual about physical fitness is
necessary in order to avoid diseases that cause individual to be unfit in doing daily task, with the
appreciation of art through dancing that will help enable an individual to express their emotions, thoughts
and talent.

B. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the semester, you are expected to be able to;

1) Adapt innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches and resources for diverse
learners.

2) Apply skills in the development and utilization of ICT to promote quality relevant and sustainable
educational practices.

3) Demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning, monitoring, assisting and attaining learning
outcomes.

4) Participate in activities that enhance professional collaboration and lead to personal growth and
career development.

C. MODULE AND UNIT TOPICS

To ensure that you will accomplish the above mentioned learning outcomes at the end of the
semester, this module is divided into;

MODULE I. RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES


This module aims to introduce to you the important aspects of rhythmic activities, improve physical
and mental health. Aside from increased physical confidence, rhythmic activities can also improve mental
functions because rhythm regulates the brain and prevents cognitive decline. It also boosts the chemicals in
our brain that support better memory and learning.
MODULE II. PHILIPPINE FOLKDANCE
This module aims to provide you the knowledge about the application of Philippine folkdance its
classification and basic dance steps . This lesson will build up their understanding of dance as an important
cultural expression before they begin learning these dances in the creative process.
MODULE III. SOCIAL DANCE
This module aims to introduce to you the importance of social dance. Dance allows people to be more
active, socialize and develop creative and physical skills. Just a few of the benefits increased exercise dancing
can give you are; reduced stress levels, improved relaxation, stronger bones & muscles, weight control and a
healthier brain.

III. COURSE STUDY GUIDE

The key to successfully finish these modules depends on your hands. This module was prepared for you to
study diligently, intelligently and independently as a future educator. This will greatly help you become the
best teacher you can ever be. Aside from discovering content knowledge and performing skills, in
accomplishing the different activities, you will be able to learn values that can mold your character as a
learner. This module has the following rules that will guide you in this journey.

1) Set your time and schedule to read the module. Read it over and over again until you understand the
point.

2) Improve your time management. Be conscious of your time especially in studying the other subject
areas. Always be mindful of the time schedule. Post it in an area where you can see it easily.

3) If you find it hard to understand some of the instructions in the module, try to re-read. Focus. You
can use other resources like searching for the definitions of a word etc. You can also ask from the members of
your family to help you. If it still doesn’t work, you can notify me, so i can call or text you for assistance.

4) Don't procrastinate. Always remember the consequences of your actions. Be diligent and responsible.

5) Before you try to answer the assessment tools given, understand the instructions first. Never settle on
low standards. Always give your best shot.

6) Don't stop trying. If needed, don't hesitate to find available means. If there is a will, there is a way.

7) In answering all the assessment, evaluations, and activities, please do write neatly and legibly. If you
are not yet sure of your answer, I advise you not to write your answer on the module yet. Remember,
everything inside the module is part of your academic activities which means that the relevant academic
conventions apply. Think before you write.

and ACRONYMs unless found in the readings, and do not write in text-speak. Please avoid
writing in all caps.

B. Do not write lengthy answers. Stick to the point. Be clear with the main points and

A. Formative Assessment

You must answer all the pre-assessment and self-assessment activities. Your score here will not be a part
of your mid-term and final grade: but they will part of the completion of your requirement in Physical
Education 1. Thus, you are really expected to complete all the pre-assessment and self-assessment
activities. These activities will help you determine your strengths and weaknesses in this course.

 You can answer the pre-assessment and self-assessment in the given schedule in each unit. It is
very important to schedule your work for you to organize your work and time.

 In accomplishing formative assessments, you can ask help from your parents and friends.

B. Summative Assessment

 Quizzes and Examination - there will be two quizzes and two examinations to be given in this
course.

RATIONALE

This module aims to introduce to you the importance of rhythmic activities in our lives. Certain terms and
activities are thoroughly discussed to nurture you with knowledge and awareness and to foster commitment
to lifelong physical activities.

A. INTRODUCTION

Rhythmic activities are combinations of physical movements with sounds, beats, or music. Rhythmic activities
rely on an internal or external rhythm used for self-expression, exercise, demonstration of physical ability,
socialization, and expression of culture. It improves physical and mental health, aside from increased physical
confidence, rhythmic activities can also improve mental functions because rhythm regulates the brain and
prevents cognitive decline. It also boosts the chemicals in our brain that support better memory and learning.

ACTIVITY I

INSTRUCTION: In the field of dance, there are certain fundamental knowledge and rhythmic skills
considered important for proficiency and efficiency in bodily movements. Given the link below,

each element.

ELEMENTS OF RHYTHM

Introduction

Dancing is the movement of our body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a given space, for
the purpose of expressing an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement
itself where we can create different dance movements that leads us to the type of movements known as the
locomotor and non-locomotor movements. Locomotor movements are defined as movements that travel
through space or carry weight from one location to another, Non-locomotor are movements that does not
travel, but uses the available space in any direction or movement organized around the axis of the body. In
this activity, let’s find out the types of movements.

ABSTRACTION
Rhythmic activities are the physical manifestations of the mental and emotional response of the individual to
rhythm. They are activities which a child responds to physically, socially, and mentally to regular patterns of
sound. Rhythmic activities include any kind of activity that is based upon a prominent accented and
unaccented beat, during rhythmic activities an individual tend to respond to the recurrent beat rhythms
through rhythmic body movements. They are also a source of enjoyment for people of all ages. Through these
activities, skills and the sense of rhythm are acquired and developed, feelings are expressed, basic principles of
time, space and force can be experienced.

APPLICATION

INSTRUCTION: There are five fundamental or basic positions in dance that are
commonly termed as 1st position, 2nd position, 3rd position, 4th position, and 5th position
of the feet and arms. Given the statements below, analyze each statement on how to
properly do it. Demonstrate each position, take a photo and paste it here.

1st position
Feet: Heels close together, toes apart with an angle of about 45 degrees.
Arms: Both arms raised in a circle in front of chest with the finger
tips about an inch apart.
2nd position

Folk arts, specifically folk music and dance, embody fundamental values of great worth to our culture,
our nation, and our children. Our job is to preserve the joyful tunes we've inherited from our ancestors and to
pass them on to others. It is very important to see musical artists performing on instruments they have hand
crafted, or playing vibrant melodies from their grandfather's fiddle while dancing with the ethnicity of the
music depicting the life, culture, beliefs and norms of our ancestors. Philippine folk dance helps keep the

A folk dance is a dance developed by people that reflect the life of the people of a certain country or
region. The history of Philippine folk dancing incorporates influences from immigrants and conquerors while
at the same time maintaining distinctly Filipino roots. Philippine folk dancing is a true reflection of daily life in
past centuries while enchanting modern audiences at the same time. The objectives of Philippine Folk dances
are the following:

1. To commit to the ideals of cultural development as a vital factor in nation-building.

2. To enhance the cultural values demonstrated in various folk dances aesthetically, morally, and physically.

INTRODUCTION

Popular couple dances without set patterns are classified as social and ballroom dances. Most social
dances are characterized by the man leading and the woman partner following whatever steps,
styling, and rhythmic variations he chooses and indicates. Social dances are usually done to
introduce people with one another during a formal social gathering or to welcome guests to a social
gathering. Many of the social dances like polka and mazurka started as folk dances while some were
deliberately designedfor its social purpose, such as the waltz, regoudon and polonaise (Nimor,
2006). Social dancing is believed to had existed since the beginning of human society in some forms.

Ballroom dance training offers unique advantages. It is not only a rhythmical exercise that adds life,
graceful muscular movements but it is also a group recreation. A child who has learned ballroom dancing gains
not only improved posture and coordination but ease in relationships with companions. Dancing is one means
of instilling graceful body coordination; it is also a muscular activity that brings social ease. A girl who has
