Method Statement:

Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top Coat - Insulating elastomeric waterproof coating for roofs

High temperature working

It is suggested that, for ambient temperatures above 350C, the following precautions to be adopted as good
working practice:

(i) Store unused materials in shed in a cool environment, avoiding exposure to direct sunlight.

(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is necessary to keep cool those
surfaces of the equipment, which will come into direct contact with the material itself.
(ii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, in direct Sun. Substrate temperature to be
as low as possible to avoid evaporation of liquid component from materials.
(iii)Arrange and allocate sufficient manpower for uninterrupted work, under efficient and experienced
supervisor to avoid material losses and smooth execution of job.
Equipment
Following is the checklist of equipment required at the site for better execution of work:

Protective clothing : Good quality aprons or overalls

Protective gear : Goggles, face masks, hand gloves, gumboots
Surface preparation
equipment : Electric or pneumatic breaker, Surface grinder
Proprietary blasting equipment, Chisel, hammers etc.
Mixing equipment : 1 KW slow speed drill, 400 or 500 rpm, or agitator
Clean buckets or open mouth drums of appropriate size, metal
rods to stir the materials intermittently
Application equipment : Suitable spray equipment
Nylon brushes – 100mm to 150 mm wide or lambs wool rollers
Application – Important notice
M/s Pidilite – Dr. Fixit suggests, wherever possible the usage of trained and experienced applicators for
execution of work to ensure a satisfactory, hassle free site working to avoid any lapses or improper usage of
materials leading to unsatisfactory results. However for the applicators appointed or tendered by the client,
Dr. Fixit adopts a policy to offer a complete and comprehensive technical assistance and support by
arranging either site training or classroom and practical training sessions at the company's Training Center in
Mumbai as the case may be. This is to ensure the application of Roofseal Top Coat is as per the
manufacturer's specifications.
1.0 Surface preparation

 Prepare the surface thoroughly by cleaning, washing and removing dust, dirt, oil, grease and loose particles.
Well prepared substrate.
 Existing roof systems to be visually inspected for conditions that may adversely affect adhesion of
performance of newly installed products.
 Damaged or hollow portions, sharp edges, etc. must be cut and repaired with a polymer-modified mortar using
Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP.
 Ensure that the roof slope of a minimum of 1 in 100 is already provided.
 The surfaces shall ideally be in Surface Saturated Dry (SSD) before application of Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top
Coat, Do not apply to wet or visibly damp surfaces.
 Ensure that the roof slope of a minimum of 1 in 100 is already provided.
 Bitumen based waterproofing treatments if existing, must be completely removed by mechanical
scarification or by any other effective mechanical means. Areas of algae, mildew or fungus on the roof
membrane or the existing coating should be treated with a solution of 1 part household bleach and 3 parts
water, followed by a power washer rinse using clear water.
 The careful sealing of existing cracks & joints before the application is extremely important for log lasting
waterproofing results. Clean concrete cracks / hairline cracks, of dust, residue or other condemnation. Fill all
prepared cracks with acrylic flexible crack filler Dr. Fixit Cracks-X Paste / Dr. Fixit PU sealant.
 Cracks more than 5mm fill all repaired with Polymer modified cement sand mortar in the ratio of 1:3 duly
admix with Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP @ 10% by weight of cement Or with Dr. Fixit Polymer Mortar HB a
ready to use single component polymer modified repair mortar. Allow to Cure for 5-7 days /moist cure as
usual. Ensuring it adheres to the surface.

2.0 Mixing
o Using slow speed mechanical mixer /paddle mixer, Stir well before use.

3.0 Application
Primer Application
o Remove water from the terrace after its curing and leave the surface to get dried.
o Clean the surface once again thoroughly to remove all dust and cement particles.
o Pre wet the surface prior to application of primer and allow surface water to evaporate to make
surface saturated dry (SSD) condition.
o Stir well before use. Apply one coat of self-priming coat of Dr. Fixit Roofseal top coat (diluted with
water in the ratio of 2:1) spreading at the rate of 8-10 /Sq.mt /Litre Substrate MUST be in SSD
condition for application of primer. Allow the primer to cure according its technical instructions.

3.1 Application
o Allow the self-priming coating Roofseal top coat to dry for 3-4 hours prior to applying first coat &
second coat.
o Apply two coats of Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top Coat @ 2 - 2.2 Sq.mtr / litre / coat, without water dilution,
the rate of application being the same for both the coats. This would ensure correct consumption of
material that will deliver a total DFT of 450– 500 micron.
o All the concrete / masonry pedestals present on the roof, constructed for supporting the water
tank or pipe lines or dish antenna/solar panel, etc., also should be coated with extra coat.
o Allow the system to air cure for 7 days prior to carry out ponding test.
3.2 Application on Parapet walls
o Terminate the Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top Coat coating at 300 mm height on the vertical face of a parapet
wall at the drip mould, made in plaster. In absence of any such drip mould, the coating shall be
extended till top of parapet wall.
o All rain water pipe ‘openings’ shall be coated with same waterproofing coating from inside to a
distance of 50 mm.

Section Drawing of Roof Waterproofing System

4.0 Precautions
o All corners, gaps, joints, Roof leak repair area & outlets shall be coated with two extra coats.
o Do not apply during rains; substrate MUST be in SSD condition for application of primer.
o The product is designed only for foot traffic and not vehicular or movement of machinery.
o Do not apply Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top Coat plus over expansion or moving joints directly.
o To achieve the full proof waterproofing, parapet walls should be covered with Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top
Coat / Dr. Fixit Raincoat system.
o For top coat application never dilute Dr. Fixit Roofseal Top Coat with water for ease of application.
o Do not apply when ambient temperature is below 10°C or above 36°C.
o Keep the material in close when not in use.

5.0 Shelf Life

o Shelf life is 24 months from the month of manufacturing if stored in original and unopened
packaging in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.
6.0 Health & Safety
o Skin Contact: Wash skin with soap & water. Remove contaminated clothes.
o On eye contact: Immediately splash eyes with plenty of water. Consult physician if irritation
persists.
o Ingestion: It is based on water based coating system, however, seek medical help.
