Safe Exam Browser (SEB): Installation and Testing

This document describes how you can install and test your SEB setup. You will use SEB for
the exam; therefore, following these instructions carefully and making sure that you have a
working SEB installation is critical and your responsibility.

SEB is only available on Windows and MacOS. Following the instructions for your system
below.

1. Safe Exam Browser Usage Instructions for Windows:

● Download SEB v3.1.0 from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/seb/files/seb/SEB_3.1.0/SEB_3.1.0.228_SetupBundl
e.exe/download and then install it.
● Download the configuration file “SEB_Class3Settings_windows.seb” we have
supplied in the link below, and double click on it.

● Safe Exam Browser should start with the desired configurations.
● Try to log on to class3.metu.edu.tr and attempt “Quiz for SEB Test”. Take note of the
following:
○ You should not be able to attempt this quiz with any other configuration
of SEB or any other browser.
○ Most of the features of your PC are disabled for exam safety.
○ There is no back button. You should not navigate to pages that would not
allow you to go back.
● Click on the button on the bottom-right when you are done to quit SEB.

1.1 Troubleshooting for Windows

● I have a 32-bit system.
○ Send an email to ceng240@ceng.metu.edu.tr in the form explained in the
next issue.
● I cannot attempt the quiz, it tells me my configuration is off.
○ Make sure you use the correct version of SEB (3.1.0). Make sure you use the
correct configuration file we have sent you
(“SEB_CENGTHE1Settings_win.seb”).
○ Do not edit given config files for any reasons. If you do so, you will violate the
permitted version, and you will not be able to attend the exam.

● Download SEB v2.2.2 from https://sourceforge.net/projects/seb/files/seb-
macosx/seb_macos_2.2.2/SafeExamBrowser-2.2.2.dmg/download and then install
it.\
 ● Download the configuration file “SEB_Class3Settings_mac.seb” we have supplied in
the link below, and double click on it.

● Safe Exam Browser should start with the desired configurations.
● Try to log on to class3.metu.edu.tr and attempt “Quiz for SEB Test”. Take note of the

2.1 Troubleshooting for MacOS

○ Make sure you use the correct version of SEB (2.2.2). Make sure you use the
correct configuration file we have sent you (“SebClass3Settings_mac.seb”).
○ Do not edit given config files for any reasons. If you do so, you will violate the
permitted version, and you will not be able to attend the exam.
