C9 – STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY – QUARTER 3

TOPIC / LESSON NAME Random Variables and Probability Distribution
CONTENT STANDARDS The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts
of random variables and probability distributions.
PERFORMANCE The learner is able to apply an appropriate random
STANDARDS variable for a given real-life problem (such as in decision
making and games of chance).
LEARNING The learner is able to:
COMPETENCIES  illustrates a random variable (discrete and
continuous); ( M11/12SP-IIIa-1)
 distinguishes between a discrete and a
continuous random variable. ( M11/12SP-
IIIa-2)
 finds the possible values of a random
variable. (M11/12SP-IIIa-3)
SPECIFIC LEARNING At the end of the lesson the students must be able to …
OUTCOMES  illustrate a random variable;
 classify random variables as discrete or
continuous; and
 find the possible values of a random variable.

PROCEDURE
INTRODUCTION
*The teacher will provide a scenario as a short introduction through PPT/Google
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CORE SUBJECT
C9 – STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY – QUARTER 3
Slides.

Scenario: If three coins are tossed, what numbers can be assigned for the frequency
of heads that will occur? If three cards are drawn from a deck, what number can be
assigned for frequency of face cards that will occur? The answers to these questions
require an understanding of a random variables.

MOTIVATION
Activity: Entry Card!

*Teacher will post the task in the Google Classroom.

Guide Questions: *Students will share their answers through email.

1. Do you think these experiments has an observable result? How do you define
experiment?
2. What do you call the result of an experiment?
3. How did you find the sample space in each experiment?
4. How will you define sample space?
5. If we will collect all these outcomes, what can we form?
6. Do these experiments, outcomes and sample spaces have a relation to the
concept of probability? Why or why not?
7. How are Statistics and Probability used in making decisions?
INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY

*The teacher will post video lecture in the google classroom.

Follow-up Questions: *Students will share their answers through Jamboard.

1. What are the two types of random variables?
2. How can you differentiate those random variables?
3. Give at least one real-life situation that will represent as an example of those
random variable?
PRACTICE

*The teacher will post an activity in the Google Classroom classwork and students
will click the google form link for the activity.
End of Day 1
MOTIVATION
*The teacher will give a review question from the previous day through padlet.
*Students will share their answers through padlet.

INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY
*The teacher will post video lecture in the google classroom.

Follow-up Questions: *Students will share their answers through peardeck.
