1. Reference to the sample pipe and pump arrangement below, centerline of pump
suction with respect to the underside of baseplate has distance of 3 m and
foundation thickness has dimension of 2 m.

If the calculated NPSHa of the Process Engineer is 8 m, considering datum line

of 4 m above the ground. A) Find the NPSH margin, if the value of NPSHr
informed by the manufacturer is 6.6 m. B) If the project requirement for NPSH
margin is 0.5 m and no option to adjust at the contractor side, shall we accept the
pump design?

2. A submersible pump will be used in a residential waste material recovery facility.

Suppose that that operating range inside the sump tank shall be from HLL ( High
liquid level) down to LLL ( Low liquid level) only. And the pump designer advised
that the allowable minimum operating level is 2.5 m.

A. Case 1: The pump designer will accept the process requirement if the pump
operates from minimum operating level down to LLL for not more than 2
hours. If the pump flowrate is 10 Cu.m/hr. Shall we accept the over all
design?

B. Case 2 : Minimum operating level is mandatory requirement as well as the

operating range of (HLL->LLL). What do you think the best solution to comply
both requirement?
