IV. PROCEDURE
Engagement
A. Review: Using Jeopardy Game
Identify the different forms of energy? To be done by group according to column of desk
arrangement.
Before we start of the game we will solve simple equation first.
If bronze is equivalent to 160 points, silver to 160 points and gold to 160 points, how many
points will be collected all in all? How did you solve for your answer? (Numeracy)
B. Drill:
Show some pictures and let the pupils identify if simple machine or not.
C. Motivation:
Show a Music Video titled “The simple Machine Song”.
https:/YouTube/l1Fhs8pXGxM (Song: Simple Machines)
What is the song about?
What things are mentioned in the song?
( Teacher writes the answer on the board )
What do you use when you want to cut paper, open a bottle, or slice a piece of fruit?
How do different materials you use help you?
Group the pupils into three. Let them stay by group. Read the standards of having a group activity
and rubrics.
Pantomime Strips: Orient the pupils about pantomime. Have each group pick a strip from the
box. While a representative is pantomiming the rest of the groups should guess the kinds of simple
machines and their uses. Every correct answer of the group will be given points.
Exploration:
Group Activity: Plan It Out: “Damage house” The pupils will identify all the simple machines
needed to repair the house. (Literacy)
Group 1: Word Hunt. Hunt for the words provided and answer the riddle being asked.

Group 2: Where do I belong?

Classify the pictures according to where they belong..

Pulley Inclined plane screw wedge Wheel and axle lever

Group 3: What kind of simple machine am I?

Write the correct term for the machine under each picture. And give example of each.
1. You can usually find me during flag ceremonies. I help the flag reach the top of the
pole.
2. I help Mr. Porter put the box to the truck.
3. Hey-o-hey-o, said the dwarf as he lift me to whack the rock into two.
4. I am Mr. See-saw.
5. The cyclist is looking for me, his bike won’t move without me.
6. “I need you”, said Mr. Hinge,” the door and I can’t connect”.

Group 4: The pictures show different simple machine. Match the piture with the names.

Explanation:

1. Reporting of the groups outputs.

2. Analyzing and discussions of pupils answers.
3. The teacher asks questions to develop critical thinking.
How many kinds of simple machines do we have?
Direct Instruction:
Teacher displays and state the different examples of simple machines. Through PowerPoint
presentation.

Elaboration:
Concept mapping: What are the different appropriate tools/simple machines and equipment in
plant propagation and their uses? (Literacy and TLE integration)

Machines

Creative thinking
Imagine yourself alone in an Island, without any food but only a can of meet loaf. How
will you open the can without using a simple machine?
Is it important to learn about simple machines? Why or why not?
Why are simple mashine useful?
Give a useful importance of a simple machine.
Critical thinking
Without simple machines, how do you think our life would be?
What are the works that you do not like most? Why?
What will you do to make it easier for you?
If you are going to invent a simple machine what would it be? Why?

Generalization

Simple Machine- is a device with few, if any, moving parts that makes our work easier
-It can change the force needed, the directions or the distance through which a
force is applied

Application:

Answer orally.
Direction: Some machines are so simple that we do not even realize that they are
machines. Identify each simple machine described below. The shapes of the boxes have been
provided to guide you. Write the answers in your notebook.
1. Machine for opening cans
2. Machine for cutting paper
3. Machine used for moving sand from one place to another
4. Machine used for pulling nails
5. Machine used for catching fish

IV. Evaluation

The picture show different kind of simple machines. Mathc the Pictures with the names.
V. Assignment:
Give some safety measures in handling simple machines.
