Teachers Journey
Learning Episode 2
A. Read, Study, Think and Reflect

1. Do you have background on the PPST? How was your PPST

Learning journey when you took up the subject The Teaching
Profession?
- Yes, I have a background on PPST since we’ve tackled
during our first year in the course “The Teaching Profession.” It
gave me an idea on what is the national standards for the
professional teachers. At first, I cannot understand what PPST
is, and in the activities, that’s given to us, it enlightened me
more and let me understand the advantage of PPST for me,
and for my future students.

2. How was your PPST introduced to you by your course

professor? What were the significant insights you learned when
PPST and Career Stages were introduced to you when you took
up the course The Teaching Profession?
- Our professor in the course “The Teaching Profession” is
systematic in terms of introducing the topic specifically the PPST.
He started to give a handout introducing the PPST and let each
of us read part by part and afterwards he is going to explain it
and let also the reader explain what he/she understands.
Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to
teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has
been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never
be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils’
tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one
has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a
good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to
keep preparing to improve the professionalism.
3. What is your understanding of the PPST? What do you like
about it?
- Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could
think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject
to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve
oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and
materials once used in teaching.
So, what I’d like about PPST is basically its relevance to
Technology for Teaching and Learning by setting the clear
expectations of teachers along well-defined career stages of
professional development from beginning to be distinguished
practice which engages the teachers to actively embrace a
continuing effort in attaining proficiency.

4. How do you think could the PPST and the Career Stages help
you as a future teacher?
- As a future teacher, PPST will help me for being aware of the
expectations of being a professional teacher and that includes
the career stages which defines the work of teachers at
different career stages, make explicit the elements of high-
quality teaching for the 21st century. This impacts my goals and
achievements of the teacher as the professional.

a. After reading varied sources and watching the videos, I

realized that PPST is a new framework that aligns the curriculum
for teacher training to the K-12 program. It will help prepare
effective teachers and support the enhancement of teacher
practice across four Career Stages in terms of nationally and
internationally recognized teacher quality.
b. As a future teacher, it is important for me to have a clear
understanding of the PPST because first, this defines the teacher
quality nationally. As a pre-service teacher, I believe that over
time, the PPST will become the measuring tool for teacher
professional learning, career development, appointment,
retention, promotion, and rewards.

c. The link between domains, strands, and indicators in the PPST

shows the framework of standards explicitly recognizes the
critical place of subject knowledge and how it is taught.
However, it goes much further, stressing the importance of
proficiency in each stated domains, from 1st to 7th domain.

B. To further assess what you know and how you understand PPST, list the key features
or description of each domain and identify specific practices or tasks you do so far as a
Pre -Service Teacher in BUCE that fall under each domain.
