Q. 1. An aircraft lands at a particular airport and the same aircraft take-off after 45
minutes to some other destination. The time it lands and the time it takes-off. List down
activities between aircraft landing and aircraft take-off and prepare Gantt chart.
Answer-
Activity Tasks start End time Duration

A Parking 0 5 5
B Deplaning of passengers 5 15 10
C Unloading 5 15 10
D Refueling 15 25 10
E Cleaning 15 25 10

Q2. MRP Bracket sum (Topic: Material requirement planning)
Given below is the diagram. Consider the total quantity of the Brackets to be produced as
200. Accordingly calculate the total number of clamps, handles, springs, housing, base and
bearing required.
Answer-

Item Item Code Quantity Total Qty level

Base B12 2 200 1

Springs C11 2 400 1

Clamps D20 4+4=8 1600 1, 2

Housing E21 2 400 2

Handle F30 (1*4*1)+(4*1)= 8 1600 3

Bearings G31 1*2*2= 4 800 3

Shaft H32 1*2*1= 2 400 3

Q3. What are the different causes that result in poor quality in an organization? (Refer fish
bone diagram). Write the primary causes and give the secondary cause as well (5-6 causes)

Answer-
Q.4. I) determine the job sequence and find the total time and idle time for both the
machines. Make a table to answer the question.

Machine  Job 1 Job 2 Job 3 Job 4 Job 5

Machine 1  4 7 2 5 9

Machine 2 3 8 5 5 7

Answer-Job sequence

Job 3 Job 4 Job 2 Job 5 Job 1

Machine 1 Machine 2
sequence
In out In out

Job 3 0 2 2 7
Job 4 2 7 7 12
Job 2 7 14 14 22
Job 5 14 23 23 30
Job 1 23 27 30 33

Total Time- 33 minutes

Idle time for machine 1- 6 minutes

Idle time for machine 2- 5 minutes

ii) Determine the job sequence and find the total time. And idle time for all the three
machines Make a table to answer the question.
Machine  Job 1 Job 2 Job 3 Job 4

Machine 1  4 7 6 5

Machine 2 3 2 1 4

Machine 3 5 5 7 8

Answer

The lowest timing on Machine I or Machine III should be greater than or equal to maximum time
on machine II, then we can convert a 3 Machine problem to a 2 Machine problem by having 2
fictitious machines G & H, where Time on G = Time on Machine I + Time on Machine II &
Time on H = Time on Machine II + Time on Machine III.

Here, minimum timing for Machine I is 4 min. &Min timing for Machine III is 5 min, whereas
maximum timing for machine II is 4 min. Hence, now the table will be as follows

7 9 7 9
Machine G
Machine H 8 7 8 12

Job Sequencing-

Job 1 Job 3 Job 4 Job 2

Machine 1 Machine 2 Machine 3

Sequence

In out In out In out

Job1 0 4 4 7 7 12

job 3 4 10 10 11 12 19

job 4 10 15 15 19 19 27

job 2 15 22 22 24 27 32
Hence, Total time = 32 minutes.
Idle Time:

Machine 1 = 10 minutes

Machine 2 = 22 minutes

Machine 3 = 7 minutes
