Importance of statistics

INTRODUCTION:

Statistics are the sets of mathematical equations that we used to analyze the things. It keeps us
informed about, what is happening in the world around us. Statistics are important because today
we live in the information world and much of this information’s are determined mathematically
by Statistics Help. It means to be informed correct data and statics concepts are necessary.
For Example Everybody watches weather forecasting. Have you ever think how do you get that
information? There are some computers models build on statistical concepts. These computer
models compare prior weather with the current weather and predict future weather. In another
example Statistics mostly used by the researcher. They use their statistical skills to collect the
relevant data. Otherwise, it results in a loss of money, time and data.

Importance of Statistics in Psychology:

In psychology, we have to manage large amounts of data and have to face some other challenges
in psychological research. For example how do changes in one variable impact other variables?
Is there a way we can measure that relationship? What is the overall strength of that relationship
and what does that mean? Statistics allow us to answer these kinds of questions.

Statistics allow psychologists to:

 Organize data: When dealing with large amount of information, it is all too easy to
become overwhelmed. Statistics allow psychologists to present data in ways that are
easier to understand. Visual displays such as graphs, pie charts, frequency distributions,
and scatterplots allow researchers to get a better overview of data and look for patterns
they might otherwise miss.
 Describe data: Descriptive statistics provide a way to summarize facts, such as how
many men and women there are, how many children there are, or how many people are
currently employed.
 Make inferences based on data: By using what's known as inferential statistics,
researchers can infer things about a given sample or population. Psychologists use the
data they have collected to test a hypothesis. Using statistical analysis, researchers can
determine the likelihood that a hypothesis should be either accepted or rejected.

Types of Statistics:

There are two types of statistics:

 Descriptive Statistics
 Inferential Statistics

Descriptive Statistics

Descriptive statistics mostly focus on the central tendency, variability, and distribution of sample
data. Central tendency means the estimate of the characteristics, a sample or population, and
includes mean, median, and mode also. Variability refers to a set of statistics that show how
much difference there is among the elements of a sample or population along the characteristics
measured, and includes metrics such as range, variance, and standard deviation.

Inferential Statistics

Inferential statistics are tools that statisticians use to draw conclusions about the characteristics
of a population, drawn from the characteristics of a sample, and to decide how certain they can
be of the reliability of those conclusions. Based on the sample size and distribution statisticians
can calculate the probability that statistics, which measure the central tendency, variability,
distribution, and relationships between characteristics within a data sample, provide an accurate
picture of the corresponding parameters of the whole population from which the sample is
drawn.
