Question 1- Why a Common University Entrance Test (CUET)?
Answer- To reduce burden on students. Many universities were already conducting
their entrance test. Only few were considering on the basis of class XII marks.
Students were appearing in multiple entrance tests which were causing stress on the
mind of students with different types of tests. Multiple entrance exams were not only
causing stress on the students but on their parents as well. NEP advocates one
nation one entrance exam for equal opportunity to all students across the boards
(CBSE/ICSE/State Boards etc.. )
Question 2- What about class XII Marks? Will it become irrelevant now?
Answer- Class XII marks play a major role in the career of students. UGC has
decided not to fix up minimum percentage for admission to universities beside the
CUET score, any university may fix up a minimum percentage of class XII board for
admission. For example, XYZ university will have right to decide its admission policy
with minimum class XII board percentage. Apart from this there are several
professional or career-oriented program where merit or indexing is done on the basis
of Class XII, Graduation, Post-graduation scores. Foreign universities will have their
own policies and they have their own mechanisms to consider the candidature for
their admissions.
Question 4- Agency responsible to Prepare Syllabus for CUET and when will it
come in public domain?
Answer- NCERT will prepare syllabus for CUET which will be based on the common
syllabus taught in class XII across the boards of the country. Syllabus will be
released in the first week of April-2022
Question 9- How will the test facilitate the interdisciplinary movement from school to
college?
Answer- Students are allowed to write their exams in up to 6 domain subjects. They
can choose the appropriate subjects as per their choice irrespective of their domain
knowledge in class XII. For instance, candidates can appear in physics and political
science at the same time. Besides universities can use the general test score for
cross disciplinary admissions. For example, if any university wants to admit students
in BA Political Science, they don’t have to look for students who have studied
political science in class XII they can select students through general test score.
Universities will be given right to decide their guidelines. UGC chairman has
appealed to the universities to give wider opportunities to students and make cross
disciplinary admissions easier for them.
Question 10- What will be the procedures adopted by the universities to select
candidates?
Answer- First, Universities will fix up some qualifying marks of class XII board
exams. Second, then they will make a merit list based on the CUET Score.
Question 11- How many chances/ attempts in one year will be given for students to
appear?
Answer- This year candidates will be given only one attempt but in next year,
number of attempts may be increased.
Question 12- What will be skill-based courses having major practical components?
Answer- For all such courses, including music, painting, sculpture, theater etc.
universities will be allowed to conduct practical exams/ interviews along with CUET
score.
