Assessment A Description: Research Methods Analysis.

1.0 Overview.

Working in groups with 4 to 5 members, students will be required to analyse and compare the
research methods used in two journal research papers. Each group will present their findings in a
25-minute Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, followed by Q&A (questions and answers).

2.0 Detailed Description.

For this assignment each group is expected to complete the following task.

2.1 Select two research journal papers that address a similar research topic that are taken
from top-ranking journals based on the impact factor or those that are rated as 3, 4 or 4* in
the ABS (the Associate of Business Schools) guide. The chosen research journal papers
must contain primary research/data collection method(s).

Each group should prepare a 25-minute Microsoft PowerPoint presentation of the analysis
of the two chosen research journal papers. Each member will be required to present for at
least 5 minutes and should include…

 An explanation of the research topic (the research question/s or hypothesis/es) of

both research journal papers.
 An analysis of the research methods used, including the research philosophy,
design and strategy, and data collection techniques used in both papers.
 Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the research methods used
in each paper. Refer to and use the completed summary table in section 4.2 to
improve the quality of the presentation.
 Explain the implications of both research journal papers for practitioners and
academics.

The lecturer will announce the presentation schedule later in the semester.

See Section 4.0 for the marking scheme.

2.2 Each group should prepare a summary table of the research methods adopted in the
research journal paper. See “Section 4.2 The Summary Table Handout” on page 4.

3.0 Submission Details.

 The lecturer will announce the assignment due date for each task during the semester.
 Progressive submission will be used to monitor the development and provide feedback.
 The presentations must be completed using Microsoft PowerPoint.
 The cover page should include the name and BPC student ID of each group member.
 All assignments must be uploaded by the group leader on Moodle via the Turnitin
submission link.
 Each group is expected to upload the following on Moodle:
