It is not easy to become an independent country. How many pioneers have fought
and sacrificed to make Malaysia independent today? Independence is hard, but it is also not
easy to make a country prosperous and have a better future. As Malaysians, we should not
just leave this responsibility to the government, but we should also contribute our part to
make this country better. The future is in our hands, and everything we do now is to pave
the way for the future. I hope we will be paving a path to the light of prosperity, not the end
of the road to darkness. Chris Grosser says, “Opportunities don't happen. You create
them”.Now I am only 18 years old, perhaps my ideas are not mature enough and perfect to
truly express their ideas. However, as the future pillars of country, l would like to express my
views on how to lead Malaysia to a brighter future by improving the environment,
education system and increase economic growth and in Malaysia.

In my humble opinion, I think the most important thing for Malaysia to have a better
future is to improve the education system. This is because the education of a country
determines the quality of its people and the quality of its people determines the future of
the country. The education system today is more like producing a bunch of robots who are
good at taking exams rather than producing people who can master and apply what they
have learned in their respective fields. This is because we have been using the method left
behind by our predecessors, which is to judge a person's knowledge and ability through
tests and exams, and the higher the score, the better the person is. But one of the major
drawbacks of this method is that it kills creativity, imagination, and the joy of learning,
because people's focus will no longer be on learning itself, but on how to get high marks.
What is the usual way to get a high score? Mechanically going through a lot of papers,
making sure you know all the questions, and then getting good grades. That's not robotic,
what is it? And can the students produced by this education system find the right job for
them when they step out of society? If they really can, then why do so many college
graduates fail to find jobs or can only find jobs that pay meagre salaries? And what would
change if we invested even more money in this type of education system? In the old days, if
you got good grades and went to a good college, you could get a good-paying job and live a
good life. This view was passed down from generation to generation, and elders would
teach their children to study hard so that they could live a good life in the future. This has
led to many young people giving up on their lives because they can't get good grades. This is

2
because they do not know what the meaning of their lives is, they put all their focus on the
exams, once they do not get good grades is the same as no hope, the future is gravy, lose
confidence and take the road of no return. Therefore, what I want to establish is an
education system that allows everyone's strengths to be brought into play, arouses people's
desire to learn, maximizes one's strengths, and then allows them to give back to the public
what they have learned, creating a good cycle. In this process of change, I think teachers
play a very important role. Teachers are the ones, who lead the future pillars of the country,
and having a good teacher is better than reading a thousand books, he or she can pinpoint
your mistakes and correct you so that you have the right understanding. A good teacher can
also tailor the teaching to the student and use different teaching styles for different
students. In addition, he or she can see the potential of the student and give him or her
appropriate advice, because everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, and one
should not use the same indicators to judge a person's ability, but rather let the student
develop his or her strengths. Therefore, we need to increase the number and quality of
teachers, we need enough teachers to teach millions of students, and we need to make sure
that these teachers have the enthusiasm and ability to teach these students. I would
encourage more people who are interested to become teachers, and the authorities need to
give good training to teachers and allow them to share their teaching experience so that
valuable knowledge can be passed on. In addition, I would consider bringing inexperienced
teachers from foreign countries that can provide a different perspective and educational
approach to our students, so our students will have a broader perspective and insight.

In addition, for Malaysia to have a better future, we must face up to our economic
problems. Now that the epidemic is raging, our government has invested a huge amount of
money in the medical field, buying vaccines, masks, and medical equipment to protect the
health of our people. However, we also know that our economy has always been in the
middle level, and now because of the epidemic, many companies are unable to operate
normally and need to reduce their expenses by cutting salaries and layoffs, which indirectly
leads to the majority of our people facing unemployment and further leads to many families
facing the problem of food and clothing. However, the government has invested a lot of
money to help the needy people to overcome this difficult time, such as the RM 250 billion
Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN) announced on 27 March 2020, the RM35

3
billion Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) announced on 5 June 2020, and the
RM15 billion Malaysian Economic and Rakyat Protection Assistance Package (PERMAI)
announced on 18 January 2021, RM 20 billion Strategic Programme to Empower the People
and Economy (PEMERKASA) on 17 March 2021 and RM 40 billion Strategic Programme to
Empower the People and Economy Plus (PEMERKASA+) on 31 May 2021, but this also
requires the people to pay attention to the government's policies and apply for the relevant
benefits, so that both sides can cooperate to make the economy slowly improving. In
addition, I think we should understand the hard work of health care workers during this
period, take precautions to avoid more cases and casualties, and give encouragement and
support to health care workers, thanking them for sending help to patients during this
difficult time and risking infection. We should also speed up the time it takes for people to
get vaccinated, because with the vaccine, the epidemic will gradually be brought under
control and people will be able to live as usual, and the economy will slowly recover. We
should encourage people to sign up for the new vaccine, especially in Sabah because
according to the official website of the the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee
Special Committee (JKJAV), only 41.2% of the population in Sabah will be registered for the
vaccine as of July 31, 2020. In addition, we should also build more vaccination centers, open
night vaccination services, set up more temporary vaccination sites, and increase the
number of health care workers to speed up the vaccination process. During this epidemic,
many businesses have moved to online platforms, which makes express delivery, online
shopping, and e-commerce one of the future trends, because these services can bring more
convenience to the people so that they can buy what they need without leaving their
homes. Therefore, we should seize this trend to improve the country's competitiveness in
the international arena, master and develop the general direction of online business and
services and train more talents in technology, information technology, and medicine.
Technological advances can improve the quality of products and efficiency, thus achieving
low input, low consumption, high output, and high efficiency in economic growth. In
addition, according to the data from the Economic Outlook 2021, Ministry of Finance
Malaysia, the number of foreign workers in year 2020 already achieved 1678900 peoples
and our unemployment rate increase from 3.3 which is in year 2019 to 4.2 in year 2020.
However, the monopoly on the recruitment of foreign workers will lead to a shortage of
labour in many industries and will not promote the economic development of the country.

4
Therefore, I think we should gradually reduce the use of foreign workers, impose a head tax
on employers who hire legal foreign workers and encourage employers to use machinery to
replace human labour in the direction of business automation, to effectively eradicate the
problem of foreign workers and promote the country's technological progress. We should
also announce new policies to attract foreign investors and further boost our economy. We
should also accelerate the study of the roadmap of urbanization in the states, especially in
the remote areas of Sabah, to increase the per capita GDP of the states, as there is a
significant gap in the per capita income and education level in the states. Therefore, the
government should encourage rural residents to move to the cities as they have more
occupations and areas that offer higher income and better facilities and services. In addition,
we should make good use of the natural resources that we have and plan to develop and
use them to increase our income.

Furthermore, as a developing country, we must also pay attention to our

environmental problems. As a country develops economically and technologically, the
consumption of resources is bound to increase drastically with the massive exploitation of
natural resources, which also aggravates the problem of environmental pollution. The
environmental pollution problems that Malaysia faces include water pollution, air pollution,
noise pollution and soil pollution. In terms of water pollution, we can see the impact of
water pollution on people's lives from the 3 September 2020 incident of water production in
Selangor, which was mainly caused by a factory dumping waste containing chemical waste
solvents into the Sungai Gong, resulting in the suspension of several water filtration stations
and affecting 1.2 million families who were forced to fetch water and exposed to dangerous
conditions during the outbreak. In addition, according to the Environmental Quality Report
2018, most of the water pollution is caused by agriculture-based industries, manufacturing,
sewage treatment plants, pig farms and wet markets. From these things we can know that
our country does not manage its water sources in the best way and there are still many
factories that use the method of dumping waste into the river to dispose of the waste in
order to save money. The reason they dare to do this is no other than because the
government agencies are not strong enough to enforce the law and they dare to take
shortcuts to dispose of these wastes even knowing that they are breaking the law.
Therefore, l should conduct routine environmental reviews of these projects that may have

5
a significant impact on the environment, such as those industries involving chemicals,
energy, and waste disposal. If any entity is found to be in violation of the law, severe
penalties should be imposed as an example to others. In addition, industries need to invest
in green energy and encourage people to purchase products related to renewable energy.
People are encouraged to buy solar panels, solar water heateror electric cars, they will be
subsidised and tax breaks. This is because if we use renewable energy sources, we can
reduce pollution which will be less harmful to plants and animals. Without greenhouse
effects, the issues of global warming will be reduced and the environment will be improved.
At the same time, solar energy will contribute to the supply of energy availability to our
country and not relying on chemical. Thus, ensuring the stability of the energy supply and
avoiding energy depletion. In addition, urban planners should increase the coverage of
green belts in cities, which not only beautifies the city and eliminate visual fatigue but also
purify the environment, reduce noise and absorb harmful gases and release oxygen. On top
of that, plan of construction of forest cities will put into action as soon as possible, because
forest cities can directly absorb the carbon released in the city and also reduce the heat
island effect and climatic change. Forest by-products from urban forest construction can
also bring direct economic benefits and make a great contribution to the economic
development of our country. Apart from that, urban forest can act as a tourist area to
attract local or foreign tourists and bring in considerable revenue for the country. Urban
forestry can promote local economic and community development and enhance the
economic vitality of cities and surrounding areas. All of these methods can greatly improve
the air quality of our country and the quality of life of our people, and this is beneficial to
the health of the citizens and the aesthetics of the environment.

In conclusion, the best planning and suggestions require action to make it happen. We
should not be giants in thought and dwarfs in action. Since we are aware of the various
problems that our country is facing, we should go for solutions in time to turn the crisis into
a turnaround and make our country move towards a better future. I also hope that all
Malaysians can unite together to write a glorious history and lead Malaysia to be one of the
world powers.
