Chennai Chess Olympiad

The 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held this summer in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The FIDE
Council had approved the city's bid. Originally, the event was to be held in Moscow but the war in
Ukraine made that impossible.

The venue will be the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort & Convention Center, 60
kilometers south of central Chennai. It is located in Mamallapuram, one of the famous tourist sites in
India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of seventh- and eighth-century Hindu monuments.

Intent:

The primary objective is to design

- A Logo
- A Mascot and
- A Tagline

For the Prestigious International event to be held in Pallavas’ Mahabalipuram.

The proposals shall reflect the glorious Craftsmanship of the Venues Architecture Style.

Project Approach:

1. Students are required to study the venue and its rich cultural heritage. Architecture, Art
and historic links to other citys of the world, motifs and symbolisms.

This shall be done through google street view sketching exercises. Students shall be given one hour
to produce 20 thumbnail size 8cm X 5cm sketches of monuments of Mahabalipuram from Google
street view app.

2. Student will study chess as a game of wit/speed and about various grand masters from
Chess.com
3. From the thumbnail sketches, students shall do abstract sketches to form base work for
logo and mascot designs.
4. Students shall apply colour theory and learnings from adjectives with lines assignment
and for the final sketch for the logo and mascot.
5. Sketches shall be done in Photoshop and made into JPG and PNG images.
6. Students will be writing appropriate description of their entries along with a catchy
Tagline.
