A very warm welcome to our English class and my best wishes for
you in the second semester 2021.

I have developed this module with you in mind to guide you to our English class. I am
very happy to have you in my class and I hope you have a very enjoyable and
successful semester. Our aim is to ensure your academic success and that start with
your clear understanding of what is expected of you in the virtual learning environment
and how you can be comfortable with it.

Our classes will focus on improving your proficiency in the English language. Learning
by doing, or by practicing together is the real aim of our course. This means that you
will be involved in using the language in context rather than in isolation. You will
regularly receive readings, video, and other kind of material related to your career, so
you will have a clear understanding and put in practice your knowledge in the real life.
A communicative pedagogical approach will be used. In this course you will have the
opportunity to focus on improving your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Teaching Methodologies

The methodology for this semester English course will be highly interactive. Everyone will
be expected to play an enthusiastic and positive role in contributing to class discussions.
We will be using two platforms to develop our classes. We will be mainly developed our lessons by
using Microsoft Teams Platform, this will be the main source of communication. We will also use
UTP Virtual Platform where you will receive and send your assignments. UTP virtual platform will
also help you to keep track of your grades. The strategies to be utilized will include interactive
discussions, small team activity, lectures, and multimedia presentation, role plays,
conversation café, case studies and others. The virtual classrooms experiences will help
you to build, develop and improve your listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills.

Teacher’s Profile

Welcome to 2021 academic year!

My name is Dora J. Tuñon V. I consider myself a very organized person, compassionate,


hardworking, a learner, teacher, and leader. I have a working experience in Higher Education of
25 years. I am a full-time professor at the Technological University of Panama, Regional Center of
Coclé. I worked as coordinator of the English Language Center at UTP for 10 years. During my life
I have acquired relevant professional education and training that have helped me improve as a
professional.
After finishing my secondary studies, I obtained a scholarship to study at The State University of
New York in Stony Brook. There I obtained my Bachelor of Arts with emphasis in Linguistic, at the
same time I completed my studies in the TESOL program with 6 months internship experience in
the field of teaching English as Second Language at the State University of New York in Stony
Brook. After that wonderful experience I returned to Panama and I felt very motivated to continue
my studies, so I got a bachelor’s degree in English from Panama University as well as a degree as
High School Teacher.
I developed a passion for learning, so I continue my studies in Higher Education. I got a master’s
degree in English from Columbus University and a master’s degree in Higher Education from
Cartago University.
I love teaching but I also love business, so I decided to enter to ISAE University to obtain a master’s
degree in business administration with emphasis in Human Resources. I also got a postgraduate
degree in English Methodologies from The Latin-American and Caribbean Pedagogic Institute from
Cuba, where I had the opportunity to travel to Cuba, learn about the culture and enjoy the wonderful
touristic attractions.
I also had the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate degree in Senior Management from ISAE
University and a Post grade in Higher Education from Latina University.
When teaching I really love to create strong collaborative relationship with my students and
maintain a safe, friendly environment, conducting to my students to the academic success.
