Armed Confrontation
-Non-international armed conflict: A protracted armed confrontation occurring
between governmental armed forces and the forces of one or more armed groups, or
between such groups arising on the territory of a State.
Commencement
-action is the formal procedure by which legal proceedings are initiated.
Commencement of civil lawsuits begins when the plaintiff files the complaint with the
court. Criminal proceedings are typically commenced by a government prosecutor.
Complaint
-Is any formal legal document that sets out the facts and legal reasons that the filing

Coordination
-the organization of the different elements of a complex body or activity so as to
enable them to work together effectively.
Defensive position
-during law enforcement operations decreases the risks to officers, the public and
suspects. A defensive position is a location from which an officer can choose to react to
an attack while simultaneously making use of the environment as a means of protection.
Evidence
-exhibit, testimony, proof refer to information furnished in a legal investigation to
support a contention. Evidence is any information so given, whether furnished by
witnesses or derived from documents or from any other source: Hearsay evidence is not
admitted in a trial.
Forensic
-scientists collect, preserve, and analyze scientific evidence during the course of an
investigation. While some forensic scientists travel to the scene of the crime to collect the
evidence themselves, others occupy a laboratory role, performing analysis on objects
brought to them by other individuals.
Internal Security
-is the act of keeping peace within the borders of a sovereign state or other self-
governing territories, generally by upholding the national law and defending against
internal security threats. Responsibility for internal security may range from police to
paramilitary forces, and in exceptional circumstances, the military itself.
Intelligence Operation
-is the process by which governments, military groups, businesses, and other
organizations systematically collect and evaluate information for the purpose of
discovering the capabilities and intentions of their rivals.

Investigation
-the work of a private investigator. Criminal investigation, the study of facts, used to
identify, locate and prove the guilt of an accused criminal. Criminal investigation

Kidnapping
-is the unlawful transportation, asportation and confinement of a person against their
will. It can also be defined as false imprisonment by means of abduction, both of which
are separate crimes that when committed simultaneously upon the same person merge as
the single crime of kidnapping.
Law enforcement
-Is the activity of some members of government who act in an organized manner to
enforce the law by discovering, deterring, rehabilitating, or punishing people who violate
the rules and norms governing that society.
Non-lethal weapons
-also called less-lethal weapons,less-than-lethal weapons, non-deadly weapons,
compliance weapons, or pain-inducing weapons are weapons intended to be less likely to
kill a living target than conventional weapons such as knives and firearms. It is often
understood that unintended or incidental casualties are risked wherever force is applied,
but non-lethal weapons try to minimise the risk of casualties (e.g. serious/permanent
injuries or death) as much as possible.
-Non-lethal weapons are used in policing and combat situations to limit the
escalation of conflict where employment of lethal force is prohibited or undesirable,
where rules of engagement require minimum casualties, or where policy restricts the use
of conventional force.

Verbal warning
-means a verbal notification from the appointing authority or designated
management representative to an employee that specified activities or conduct are
inappropriate for the work place, that performance standards have not been met, and/or
that a violation of work place rules or policies has occurred;
Warning shot
-is a military and/or police term describing an intentionally harmless artillery shot or
gunshot with intent to enact direct compliance and order to a hostile perpetrator or enemy
forces. It is recognized as signalling intended confrontations on land, sea, and air.
