How to drain cooling fluid from a powerstack and

keep all other VFD’s in operation

- Manual -

This Manual discribes how to drain the Cooling Agent Tyfoxit F from a single VFD
without switching off the whole Chiller Unit. This Manual describes the major points,
because not all VFD´s are identical.
All local Regulations and Safety Precautions have to be followed by example
Working on Life Systems and the general handling of Tyfoxit F.

Returnvalve

Supplyvalve

The VFD has always a Flowline ( cold fluid )and a Return Line ( warm fluid ). Don’t be
confused by the colours of the Valves, the red one is for the Flowline the blue for the
Return Line. The adjustment of the Flow is realized with the blue Valve. The red
Valve is only for a complete isolation.

1. Electrical Isolation on all Parts

2. Check Waterflow on Waterclock (60 seconds) an write it down In Liters per

Minute ( lpm)

3. Mark both Valves at the 12 o´Clock Position ( Top Pos.)

4. Close the Red Valve and count the Rotation to the Close Position and write it
down.

5. Now close the Blue Valve and count the Rotation until the close Position has
been reached.

6. Remove Covers on both Valve heads

Notes:

WATERFLOW : …………… l/min

RED VALVE:…………………….. Rotations

BLUE VALVE:…………………… Rotations

7. Mounting of the Draining device

Make sure that the adapter is in the close position. This is indicated if you can see
the Hexhead and that there is a gap between the Hose adapter and the little
Handwheel. The adapter has to be tightened but don´t bring in to much force.

8. Mounting of Drain Hoses

Attention: At the new Drain hoses there is a high flexible ½“ Water hose .There is no
Elbow Adapter necessary

Check that the Hoses are fully tight and that the GEKA Adapter has good seals.

9. De-pressurizing the Power Stack

Now where both Valves are fully in Close Position the Pressure is trapped and
hydraulically isolated.
At the Hose ends a Canister or other adequate Item has to be attached to take the
approx. 5L of Cooling Fluid.

Now the Adapter on the Red Valve has to be opened (Hand wheel) to release the
pressure. After no more Fluid is coming out of the Hose open the Adapter on the Blue
Valve to allow the Drainage of the full Stack by gravity. After this is done it is possible
to use an Airgun to “ help” with a Little Air pressure on the Blue Valve Hose.

10. remove Power stack

Now all the Volume should be drained from the Power stack and the Hoses. They
can be removed directly on the Power stack. If the Hose clamps are opened it is
highly possible that the Hose is stuck to the connection Adapter, then it is necessary
to cut off the first 5cm from the Hose.
ATTENTION: The Hose Clamps should be renewed after 1 use!!!
Close the open Hose ends with EX Blind plugs M25 and secure them with clamps to
make sure that no Fluid is spilled.

It is handy to have always enough oil racks to remove spills. Wiping is not enough,
use some Water to thin the salt based fluid.
Filling and Bleeding Off the Power stack

After Change of the Power stack and re-connection of the Hoses it is necessary
to bleed of the Air from the new Stack.

 Make sure that all valves are fully closed

 Remove the Draining adapter from the Red Valve and close the Cover on
the Valve head

 Now open slowly the Red Supply valve and check all Connections on spills.
Now there is a Air/Fluid Mixture within the Power stack and this has to be
drained on the Blue Draining Valve Hose.
Open slowly the Adapter on the Blue Valve and drain the Mixture in the
Canister. Be aware not to drain all the System pressure , this will cause in
a shut down off of all VFD´s. If System pressure is low , fill up the Chiller
Unit until pressure Level is reached. System pressure is engraved at the
Chiller unit. Flush out the Power stack until clear fluid is flowing out. After
this remove the Draining Adapter and close the Cover on the Valve head.
Now the Return Valve can be opened.
