ODN Overview

Before we begin, we will know about what is ODN. ODN named optical
distribution network. Simple speaking, ODN is connect with OLT to ONT.
This is the basic structure of ODN, and the ODN is composed of 5 parts,
Feeder Optical Cable, Distribution Point, Distribution Optical Cable, Access
Point and Drop Cable. And the splitter often is located at the distribution point.
Drop Cable is the most difficult part in the 5 parts of ODN deployment, usually
be separated as “Home pass” and “Home entry”.
In the whole ODN network, people can control the ODN system by FMS. FMS
means fiber management system, it gives maintenance to the whole ODN
network which is from OLT to ONT, and trouble forewarning and trouble
location can be realized by the application of this system. FMS is a developing
trend of ODN construction. Huawei engineers are pushing themselves to
achieve the goal of FMS realization.

In this slide, I will give you a lifelike statement through a typical demo of ODN
deployment. From this figure, we can see that the yellow line represents the
feeder optical cable, and it usually be laid from CO, and often be buried
underground. The green line represents the distribution cable, and it could be
buried or aerial installation to fit different deployment situations. The red dots
mean access point. From access point to home, it is drop cable. This part is
very complexity. Different areas have different situations.
Cable deployment need pipe for buried or pole for aerial, which is the
efficiency way, it correlate with city policy.

In order to prevent disturbing client when we do maintenance, display the TB

spot outside of the door
of client as the interface of the engineering, which is easy for the
management and maintenance afterwards.
