1. Why are Engineers considered an important segment of the society?

The importance of engineers to any society has historically been of great, they use their

knowledge within a specific industry in order to make things work and solve problems,

whether this be with transport, medicine, entertainment, space or the environment. In fact,

engineering is behind everything.

One of the greatest, if not the greatest engineering feat was the new technologies nowadays.

Its development and deployment have had an incalculable impact on our societies. Work

has become easier and our general standards of living have risen considerably.

As our world becomes rapidly more technology dependent, the reliance on good tech will

make Engineers increasingly important. In an advanced technological world, we need

engineers to bring ideas into reality. By applying the principles of mathematics and science,

engineers develop solutions to the world’s biggest technical issues.

2. In the company where you belong, what areas are engineers currently involved?

Enumerate and explain their functions.

In our company “Scale Engineering and Consultancy” the following are the scope and

task being involved by respective Engineers:

Structural and Civil Team (Design and Estimation)

• Develop cost effective design lay outs based on construction specifications and

requirements.

• Perform civil design analysis and calculations according to project management.

• Designing of various structural projects such as Residential, Warehouse,

Commercial, Mid-rise Building and Horizontal Projects.

• Create and prepare structural analysis using STAAD and other related software.
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical report.

• Managing design projects within allotted timelines and budgets.

• Conducting field surveys and investigations to prepare engineering drawings.

• Coordination with client and team for design approval.

Mechanical Team (Design and Project Management)

• Provide technical support in the erection, installation, alteration, testing and

commissioning of mechanical equipment, machinery, or processes in mechanical

works for projects.

• Evaluate, review, sign and seal the Company's mechanical plans and projects

prior to execution as required.

• Support Energy Manager in conduct of energy audit and cost savings

opportunities.

• Conduct technical training and awareness to the mechanical team related to

regulatory, technology update and operational requirements.

• Support Mechanical team in the development and implementation of reliability

improvement program.

• Sign and Seal of mechanical plan and documents for internal or regulatory

requirements.

• Represent the company for any legal issue concerning mechanical matters.

Plumbing Team (Design and Project Management)

• Inspects and monitors the plumbing/sanitary work construction activities of the

plumbing/ sanitary works contractor.


• Inspects materials, conducts and witness materials testing and reject substandard

materials.

• Prepares the daily, weekly and monthly accomplishments reports.

• Assesses the work accomplishment pf the contractor on a weekly basis and

submits report to the Project Manager.

• Conducts punch listing of completed work items.

• Communicates the decisions and instructions of management to the contractor

during weekly coordination meetings.

• Prepares the project's detailed cost estimate, cash flow statement and electrical

works schedule as required prior to the start of construction activities.

• Reviews and updates on a weekly basis the developed project schedule and

budget cost.

• Prior to the construction works, orients and assists the electrical works contractors

in the interpretation of the construction’s drawings, specifications, preparations of

shop drawings and method statements, quality assurance and quality plan and

other planning submittals.

3. Conduct an interview to atleast three (3) engineers who became president, general

manager or manager of a large company. Ask them on how they become a successful

engineer/manager?

Engineer on his career by using his experience, knowledge in design and managing civil

4. Describe at least three points in the decision-making process at which information plays
an important role.

Three points in the decision-making process at which information plays an important role.
(1) Diagnose Problem

Pinpointing the issue is the first step to initiating the decision-making process. Ensure the problem
is carefully analyzed, clearly defined, and everyone involved in the outcome agrees on what needs
to be solved.
(2) Develop viable alternatives
Once you have a clear understanding of the issue, it’s time to identify the various solutions at your
disposal. It’s likely that you have many different options when it comes to making your decision,
so it is important to come up with a range of options. This helps you determine which course of
action is the best way to achieve your objective.
(3) Evaluate and adapt decision results
We need to analyze the outcome achieved after the implementation of the actions selected in the
above step. Some of the tools and techniques which are used in the process of decision making
includes but not limited to are market research, cost-benefit analysis, swot analysis, decision tree,
And return of investment analysis. An often-overlooked but important step in the decision-making
process is evaluating your decision for effectiveness. Ask yourself what you did well and what can
be improved next time.
5. Identify a problem that your company has experienced. Prepare a complete report
following the eight steps in the decision-making process.

One of the problems that experienced by our company was the Pandemic situation which
we need to reduce manpower in order sustain the financial capability of the Company.
1. Diagnose Problem

The problem and scenario are Financial Capability of the Company.

2. Analyze Environment
Due to pandemic situation, the company can not be able to collect a sufficient cash for
the salary of employees. There was also a limitation for the working days and hours for
all employees in respond to the government guidelines.
3. Articulate Problem or Opportunity
To articulate problem, we took a meeting via online a collect idea in all department.
4. Develop Variable Alternatives.

The company develop different alternatives solution:

a. Reduce Manpower
b. Temporary Company Closure
c. Declare a bankruptcy
d. Sale the Company

5. Evaluate Alternatives
The company evaluate to the following alternatives solution

6. Make A Choice

The company took a decision to reduce a manpower in order to sustain the Financial
Capabilities and retain all the assets.
7. Implement Decision

After the decision had been made all Manpower being terminated was paid and
compensated based on the contract governs by law. The company also give an additional
benefit as a helping hand due to pandemic.

8. Evaluate And Adapt Decision Results

As a result, company continues to operate and some of the Employee are working at home.
