Good day, everyone. Today's report will concentrate on the Cavite Mutiny of 1872 and the
Spanish Perspectives. As a result, the 1872 cavite mutiny is one of the most significant events in
Philippine history.
Others claim that the 1896 Philippine revolution would not have occurred if the cavite mutiny
had not occurred in 1872. So how did they find out? Let's start with a look at what's going on in
the 1872 Cavite Mutiny. So the Cavite mutiny occurred in the Cavite Arsenal but what is this
arsenal? This is the production facility producing guns, ammunition, battleships, and everything
else used in warfare. Cavite Arsenal is on the verge of a mutiny or uprising, led by Sergeant La
Madrid.
What is a cavity mutiny slide
So a cavite mutiny is an insurrection by a group of persons who seek to oppose or overthrow a
specific association or institution, and generally soldiers lead it, and the question now is why
there is a cavite mutiny and what are its objective? So the reason for this is because the Spanish
government terminated the privileges and rights of Filipinos working in Cavite. The first
example is the Polo y Servicio exemption. So polo y servicio refers to the forced labor of males
aged 16 to 60. As a result, the Spanish government eliminated one of the rights that the
employees at the Cavite Arsenal would have enjoyed. Second, they increased the Tax, so that
when they received their pay, the government deducted it. As a result, the employees in the
arsenal were enraged, and they revolted. I consider the two points of view in the 1872 Cavite
mutiny, they say.
So, from the perspective of Filipinos, it appears that they were called correctly, and then it's a
manner of exploiting them as artists.
Then, from the standpoint of the Spanish government, the governor general of Spain here in
the Philippines at the time was Rafael de Izquierdo, According to him, he predicted that there
would be a revolt in Cavite. The Cavite revolt, according to the Governor General, was not an
accident, but the Filipinos had already planned a revolution to overthrow the Spanish
government. This is predicted to happen not just in Cavite, but also in other parts of the
Philippines. They executed everyone implicated in the Cavite mutiny in order to prevent it from
spreading and escalating the rebellion against the Spanish government.
When discussing the 1872 Cavite mutiny, three slain priests will be mentioned. Father Mariano
Gómes de los angeles, José Apolonio Burgos y Garca, and Jacinto Zamora y del Rosario. As a
result of the 1872 cavite mutiny, the purging of the Spaniards' political opponents had an
influence on these three priests. As a result, until the friars used the opportunity of a cavite
insurgency to enroll the three priests, the State and the Church were not separated. So, what
are their plans? So here we have another issue, which is the secularization movement of
priests. In the secularization movement of priests, we have two congregations: regular priests
and secular priests. These secular priests are Filipinos, whereas these regular priests are
Spaniards.
To cut a long tale short, these secular priests are battling for their ability to serve as priests in
the Philippine church. The ordinary priests were vehemently opposed to this. That is the
problem with the secularization effort, which was used to keep the three killed priests alive
during the Cavite Mutiny. So the three slain priests were afflicted, and they were slaughtered
through Garrote, and it was here that Jose Rizal observed the Spaniards' savagery.
As a result, we can regard the 1872 Cavite Mutiny as the start of Philippine nationalism, which
eventually led to the rise of the Philippine Revolution.
