CONCLUSIONS:

I conclude that all the answers have the similarity and show a relationship to
each other. The range of their answers makes up one sense of meaning. Curriculum is
a guide, a direction, a way, a path, a course in which one has to track to be able to
reach the finish line.
ACTIVITY 2

Similarities

 Both of them teach the

students with their needs.

 Gives the students a good

process of learning style.

 Both are aiming for the

betterment of the learner.

My Personal Insights

Traditional and progressive curriculum has their differences, but they have the same
goal which is, both ways are evaluated and measures the learning of the students. They
have both interaction between teacher and students. They differ in way of teaching and
how students interact. A mere traditional curriculum will not simply give them the edge
of doing what they expect to fulfill while they are in school. However, on the progressive
curriculum accompanied a practical type of education that was even more pleasant as
well as interesting in the students.

My Insights

Curriculum development is anchored on a very solid foundation. Although considered to

be a new discipline, its significance in the light global developments has now been
acknowledged. It is considered as a cooperative endeavor for change, but school and
society must work together for it. I learned that every curriculum is consists of various
foundations; foundations that will greatly help foster the curriculum to become effective
to all learners and teachers. And how these curriculums evolve that particularly affects
our institution today. Since learners are the center of the teaching-learning process. I
realized that before implementing a curriculum we really need to plan it properly by
learning the foundations of curriculum. We should initiate a curriculum that will
significantly cater the needs and interest of the learners.

My Insights
As a future educator, I would like to give or provide best education to my
students in order for them to become skillfully in global market and ready to compete
globally. I should be ready to achieve my everyday goals and objectives in every lesson

Present what you learned on types, functions and elements of a portfolio by
means of three (3) separate graphic organizers.
Types of Portfolio
Documentation portfolio was the only type of portfolio we have observed. I
learned that this type portfolio is more focused on the work of the students. This typre of
portfolio shows the finised products of students work.
Functions of Portfolio
The purpose of portfolio was really awesome. This i learned a lot especially in the
functions of it. I realized that the portfolio was made for the students to stive harder on
their studies. For them to motivate and allow to be more active.
Elements of Portfolio
The elements of portfolio was really important because it makes the assessment
process more meaningful. I learned that the elements should be completely presented
in the portfolio.
My
Reflections
Can rubrics help make students to become self – directed or independent
leaners? Do rubrics contribute to assessment AS learning (self – assessment?)
What if there were no rubrics in assessment?

Yes, because they are able to monitor and evaluate their own learning. If there
were no rubrics in assessment, teachers will have difficulties identifying the weaknesses
and strengths of the learners. It will also be difficult for them to know where to focus in
teaching the students. They will not be able to evaluate the performance of each
student fairly.

I can’t do it on my own and I’m also willing to give help to others whenever they need

am sociable to everyone and very communicative. I am compassionate in everything I

regret. I’m also an optimistic person who always sees the bright side of everything, for
me failure is not a bad thing unless you haven’t learned from it. With these qualities, I
am able to teach to the best of my ability with self -control, and self -confidence. I can
create a classroom, that I have authority but always listen to the students.
2. Photo Essay of the Experienced Teacher Personal Attributes or Characteristics
and Reflections.

Teachers are known as a source of knowledge; however, it is not enough for a

teacher to be smart. Their IQ level is not the basis for them to be judged as good
teachers. They must also have a high level of EQ, the ability to empathize with others:
identify, evaluate, control and express emotions, one’s own emotions; perceive, and
assess the feelings of others; use emotions to facilitate thinking, understand
emotional meanings. Teachers need to understand their students in order to think of
ways to improve and enhance his or her teaching. Mrs. Marivic De Castro was my
former Social Studies teacher in High School who showed me that learning social
studies is not tedious and difficult. She executes her lessons well, recognizes
everyone’s ability, and she gives her students an equal opportunity to answer
questions. She had a variety of IMs during class that encouraged us to listen to her
discussion. He made the social lesson easy for us, he thought of ways to make his
lesson easy to understand such as presenting colorful drawings, figures and my
favorite one, he loved to make the story of our lessons. He likes to joke whenever he
feels we are drowsy or bored in conversation. He is very focused on his career, he
never stops studying
ACTIVITY 2

1. Have you discovered your dominant Philosophy of Education? How do you

feel after knowing it? Is your philosophy or firm belief of education
reflected in what you are doing as a future teacher?

My dominant Philosophy of Education is progressivism.

The practices that I do as a student and future teacher that reflect my philosophy
are: (describe in sentences)

It has been inculcated in my mind that no one could best tell you of what to do
and teach you of what should be done but your own experience. I have always believed
that experience gives us more chance to learn and to become better as a person.

As a student and a future teacher, I always practice democracy in everything I

do. I do not just depend on what the teacher or other people tell me, instead, I go further
and experience things to discover my potential and to be better as a citizen. I keep
myself in being an active part of the society particularly with my education. I do research
if necessary for things that I am doubtful of and try to discover different approaches and
learn new things.

Yes, for sure, I am not just learning things by myself but with the help of the
people around me particularly my mentors and my colleagues. I believe it is always
healthy for “Student Teachers” like me to learn from other people who have already
experienced how it is to teach. Sharing ideas with these people surely helps me realize
my goals without compromising my views as a person.
I do not really talk often especially inside a classroom because I just like to listen
to people most of the time, particularly those people who are considered pillars whose
experiences are worthy enough to be emulated, and then, when I get a chance, I
emerge myself to the lesson by experiencing them and learning as to how I could apply
it outside with the aim of helping develop or improve our current condition.

The practices that I will do, that will reflect my Philosophy of Education will be:
(describe in sentences).

It is always healthy to teach a child to learn with the aim of helping him better
himself not just for his future but for the community’s as well. Teaching in a way wherein
you do not restrict students from the things that they need to learn or as to how they
would get to learn.

As a future “Social Studies” teacher, I would need to become more sensitive to

the children’s needs without compromising the values that they have to learn. I should
be teaching them things that they could relate to and things which would help them see
the better picture of our current condition. It should not just be about goodness and
happiness, but it should also reflect our current issues and how we could help better or
improve our society today.

The children live and learn in a community, this should remain to be my focus. I
will make sure that my students will not be isolated from others in the real world, and
that they should not be isolated from others in their learning community. They should be
able to share and collaborate on projects and learn from one another.

I would design assignments in a way where students could work in pairs or

groups so that they can learn together. I will encourage a community that values
learning and encourages students to talk about what they are doing in class even when
they are in the lunchroom or the playground. This way, I could promote an environment
that is healthy enough for students to be working together in helping better our society
today.
2. In your observations, does an experienced teacher practice what they
believe in (philosophy of education) in actual teaching? If yes, describe the
instance/episode. If No, what could be the reason?

Yes! The experienced teacher practiced what she believes in - the Progressivism
philosophy - in her teaching. Well, actually most of the time, yes.

The experienced teacher believed that to develop lifelong learners, she should apply
the learner-centered approach. I could see her eagerness in her teaching, constantly
looking for ways and best educational methods as to how to connect with her students,
making a difference, and holding each student accountable for whatever they do. She
let the students think and discover the answers by themselves. She did not allow the
students to be more dependent on what she says. She always gives exercises or
activities that will let the students practiced the think, pair and share.

However, there was also a time where I saw her stressed out, overwhelmed, or tired
wherein she failed to stick to her convictions. There was a time wherein she finished the
class early and skipped the supposedly last activity for her students. But I would like to
think that those were just few and far between, and that she would get right back to
what she always believes in.

After making a survey of the barangay and interviewing the teacher, answer
the following questions:

1. How do you feel about the participation of the school, teacher and learners in
the celebration of the barrio fiesta?

Unfortunately, our barangay does not celebrate our festival. Everyone in the
community thinks our fiesta is an ordinary day.

2. How does the view of the people in the community improve the teacher's
status?

Positive feedback always keeps you motivated to do something, because interview

feedback is favorable. to the teacher, the teachers in the school always do everything
they can not only to teach the future of the barangay but also to help and participate in
the activities in the barangay. Teachers don’t take criticism as negative feedback, they
see it as an opportunity to improve themselves and do better. They are all willing to
listen to people and open acceptance of their ideas and opinions.

3. What realization that relate to your becoming a teacher, have you gained from
your concrete experiences and observations in the community?

I realize that the teacher has a huge responsibility not only to the school and its
students but also to the community. They carry the same task and responsibility in
creating the school and community a better place for students. It is a very good thing for
a teacher to interact with the community, so that he or she can have influence with the
parents as well as the barangay officials. People in the community have high
expectations and high respect for teachers, especially in our village. They treat teachers
well and see them as perfect individuals. Because of this, I think there is no room for a
teacher in our village to make a mistake. However, I am an optimistic person, mistakes
can be good when you learn your lesson from it and it will take you to be better.

She is a millennial teacher, graduated at Batangas State University took up

Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino. She said that she had a hard time
adjusting teaching in public school because she taught first in a private school
wherein there are less paper works, students are more disciplined and the rooms are
air-conditioned. It is because of her dedication to her profession that she tried so hard
until she got used to her new teaching environment and now, she find teaching at
public school as more fun and great. She got to face different learners having
different stories and got inspired by them. She is equipped with multiple intelligence
that will help her cater diverse students. She is a passionate Science teacher who
loves to get along with her students.
