World Laughter Day

2nd May,2021 (Sunday)

Laughter...When we hear this word, it brings many memories with our friends and family. The
memories that we would cherish for our whole life. When we laugh, in that moment, we forget all
our problems and we truly live that moment of laughing. But little do we know that laughing has
also many health benefits.

To make people aware about those health benefits and relieve stress, even for a little while, the
World Laughter Day is celebrated. This day was established in 1998 and the first celebration was
on July 28, 2008, in Mumbai, India, arranged by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide
Laughter Yoga movement. Positive and powerful emotion has all the ingredients required for
individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way this day is
now celebrated worldwide. To commemorate this wonderful day which is being celebrated on 2nd
May 2021 this year, Chitkara College of Education celebrated an International Event, and educated
us, the Alpha teachers under the module EDSocial. On this occasion the aim was to spread
awareness and benefits amongst the Alpha teachers about laughter yoga especially during these
tough COVID-19times through an online Global Movement of Laughter Yoga International for
Health, Happiness and World Peace.

It was a program for health and well-being


through laughter yoga which was conducted by
laughter guru Dr. Madan Kataria and his team.
It was an international event which started with
a light hearted song on “ Laughter Yoga ha
haha” and every guest could be seen singing
and dancing at the top of their beat.

Miss Tove Kane commenced the session with some amazing laughter yoga before Dr Madan could
join in. She started with some simple breathing exercise. She greeted every participant from all
around the world. She talked in brief about the plights of Covid-19 and kept everyone engaged
with her laughter. She was a true delight and an amazing entertainer. She glowed with her
laughter. Sing, dance, play and joy were the four elements she focused on while she was teaching
her laughter yoga. She talked about the importance of laughing during tough times. She then
showed us a video on World Laughter Day.

She then introduced the speaker of the hour Dr. Madan Katria and his wife Mrs. Maduri Kataria
who first insisted that we laughed our hearts out on this International World Laughter day. We all
laughed too loud and it sure did relax our minds and soul for a while. He then talked about the
importance of laughing during these challenging times of pandemic. He talked about how laughing
yogis worked during this covid -19 times. He talked about how health, happiness and world peace
were the mission of the laughter club. He talked about how laughter yoga made our lungs happy
just a simple practice where you breathe in, hold and while breathing out you LAUGH!!.

He said that laughter is THE best medicine and we need to spread it so that we can cure as many
people as we can. He talked about how stress was the number one killer and most cost effective or
economical way to cure it was laughter. We were told that laughter yoga has helped people with
many such diseases and has improved their physical and mental health. He said that the shortcut
to happiness was being with happy people and being with the happy club or the laughter yoga club
was doing this purpose. We were told that such pandemics might come and go but what shall stay
with us would be the skill that would help us conquer everything and laughter was that required
skill. A full glass of Laughter juice was required to charge us all. The final mission of laughter was
World Peace, “when we multiply this laughter yoga committee there would be peace all over the
world” where the exact words of Dr Madan while promoting the importance of laughter.
We were also told that the laughter yoga club envisioned that one day the Olympics would
commence with a minute full of laughter. Then we all laughed for a whole one minute to manifest
this vision. The Tove coordinated and made us all dance love and laugh all through the while. This
was truly an enternating session with laughs all around and even concluded with a lot of laughter.
