LEARNING ACTIVITY 1:

Police Report Writing serves as one of the most important tools that a law
enforcer or a public safety officers can utilize to help them do their jobs. It is the
starting point to any case answering an 5-W’s and 1-H questions. It should be
written immediately after debriefing to ensure that the details of what happened
are accurate and so as not to forget the other details. In the first scenario, when
the PSSg Laban returns to their station, and did the spot report about what
happened in that incident, the report could also used by the media for them to
broadcast it on the National TV.
After an officer checks the area where the incident occurred, look for all
possible sources. Note all the details no matter how small or big you should know
it, because these are the requirements for the report. Making a police report is
really important because it will serve as a great tool to determine innocence or guilt
and can make or break a case depending on how detailed or accurate it is or not.
And if there’s a witness, prepare everything to be used such as a pen, paper or a
recorder so that you will not forget what they have to say. Let’s take care of the
witnesses, treat them properly don’t force them to speak if they don’t want to
because as we all know the witnesses are the ones who can really help to solve a
case.
On the third scenario, the police officer did the inaccurate report. Some
information in the report and as well as his grammars are not right. As we all know,
when making a reports especially Police report it is not lightly or easy. Everything
stated here must be correct and accurate, because it will serve as a way to know
how the case will be, based on what is written in the report. The officer should be
able to easily defend the facts that they inputted into the police report. If J/Insp
Ogie Penol does not correct the report made by Jail Officer 2 Beejay Empi, the
case may be easily dismissed because the other information stated in the report
written by Jail Officer 2 Empi is not accurate, just like when it was written on the
report that there should be four (4) Chinese escapees, but what he put on his report
was only three (3), that’s where that information was immediately wrong. So, report
writing is very important to our public safety officers because it will serve as the
basis and you can picture in your mind the incident happened on the area.
