Activities:

1. Day One:
a. Ask students what they know about La Virgen de Guadalupe (or Our Lady of Guadalupe)
b. Show image of “La Virgen de Guadalupe” and ask where students have seen this image
c. Open iBooks, “The Lady of Guadalupe”, and project on the board
d. Read story of “The Lady of Guadalupe” while showing the pages on the board
e. Ask students questions about the story (examples):
i. Why is Our Lady of Guadalupe important?
ii. What did she do for Juan Diego?
iii. Why was it important that she spoke in Juan Diego’s native language, and not in Spanish?

2. Day Two:
a. Review the story of “La Virgen de Guadalupe”
b. Show Prezi on “Los Peregrinos”
i. Show videos of new coverage in Mexico of “El Peregrino/El Camino”
ii. Show images of “El Peregrino/El Camino”
iii. Ask questions of what students notice in each video or image
iv. Explain the Peregrino
v. Ask why the pilgrimage is important to Mexicans/catholics/Latinos
c. Have students get out their iPads
d. Ask students to visit the Google Earth app
i. Have students search “La Basilica de La Virgen de Guadalupe” in Mexico City
ii. Allow students to explore the grounds of the Basilica
iii. Have students discuss what they find in their exploration of the grounds
iv. Have students search for specific items (examples):
i. The original image of La Virgen de Guadalupe inside the Basilica
ii. The confessional stalls
iii. Modern and Old Basilica
iv. Roses of Tepeyac
v. Pocito Chapel
