ACTIVITY # 4
VALUE ANDTHE QUEST FOR THE GOOD

What values did you learn from your Home? Are there some unethical practices that you see in your home that are
allowed and tolerated? What are those practices? In what ways could you really evaluate that your home is indeed
following what is acceptable to society?

Most of my education was in my home. My parents are my inspiration throughout life. I was able to learn a lot of
values from my family that the school didn't teach. My parents teach us how to respect others. Everyone deserves
respect, regardless of age or social standing. Respect is an essential moral value that your child must know about at
a young age, as it plays an important role in his/her behavior around strangers and elders. They also teach us to
compromise and adjust. They told us that when it is absolutely necessary, we may have to try and adjust for others.
Also, respect other religion, my parents raise us, not just to respect our own religion, but also to understand that
every person has the right to choose his/her religion. They also teach us, from a young age, that all humans are equal,
regardless of their religion or the festivals they celebrate. I don’t see any unethical practices in our home, maybe we
don’t notice it because my parents are not tolerating us to do evil things.

What values did you learn from your Community? Are there some unethical practices that you see in your
Community that are allowed and tolerated? What are those practices? In what ways could you really evaluate that
your Community is indeed following what is acceptable to society?

Hospitality is the first value that I learn from our community. This refers to generosity and kindness to guests and
strangers in homes. We welcomed visitors at any time. They were treated to plenty of food, drink, and
entertainment. Next is honesty, it was taught to everyone as they grow up to ensure they become dependable people
who always tell the truth. Courtesy it refers to politeness and good manners. There were rules that guided the
behavior of individuals towards others based on age, gender, and status of a person. Tolerance and perseverance,
tolerance means to endure somebody/something without complaining. Perseverance is a steady effort to achieve a
goal without giving up. Being true and faithful in supporting somebody or a particular cause. We are also taught
values of the community which they are expected to keep and protect. We are taught not to betray the family and
friends and always stick together. In our community we are all united in all aspects. But we can’t deny that there is
no perfect community, we still tend to do unethical doings that can harm our community. So the best thing to do is
to have some research. Organizations must research, develop, and document policies and processes around defining,
identifying, and reporting ethics violations. These policies should be articulated in the community handbook and
protections should be put in place for those who raise ethical issues. However, having a policy is not enough. You
must practice what you preach.

What values did you learn from your Church/Religion? Are there some unethical practices that you see in your
Church/Religion that are allowed and tolerated? What are those practices? In what ways could you really evaluate
that your Church/Religion is indeed following what is acceptable to God?

Catholics put special importance on family values such as unity, fidelity, and respect both within the domestic family
unit and in the church family. Catholics believe the church community is strengthened by procreation of families. We
believe that the church community is strengthened by procreation of families. Education of children in the ways of
the church is a process that begins at home and later is shared by the church community. It is a child's responsibility
to respect their parents and to care for them in their elder years. Parents have a responsibility to set an example to

their children of spiritual devotion, charity and fidelity. Support and family counseling are offered by the church
community in order to promote spiritual and familial stability. A basic principle of Catholic morality and values is that
each individual has inherent worth and human dignity. Catholics promote charity work in order to ensure that those
who are less fortunate have their basic needs met. They also support causes that fight to protect the rights of workers
and human rights. But many of which have little or no connection to the Bible, such as the Catholic tradition of eating
fish instead of meat on Fridays, which is never mentioned in the Bible. Essentially, people accept or reject religious
morality based on an internal moral compass they already possess. They may even choose which religion to attend
based on how well the church's teachings align with what they believe is right or wrong. As a result, people did not
come to believe that God is incorrect; rather, they updated their views about what God believes. When someone's
moral beliefs are changed, their perspective on God change as well. In other words, when thinking about God’s
beliefs, you’re subconsciously accessing your own beliefs.
