FITTING THE COUNTER−JIB BALLAST

1. FITTING THE BALLAST

1. 1. GENERAL NOTES
Ballasting the counter−jib is carried out with X concrete blocks CG − CP and CM.
Ballasting starts always on the side opposite to the counter−jib nose (the part near by the crane tower)
(Detail A − Figure 1). The blocks are held by supports (1) resting on an inclined plane (2) (Detail B − Figure
1), what ensures interlocking of the blocks.
The composition and the weight of the ballast during work are given in paragraph 54A Ballast weight and
composition before fitting the jib (partial ballasting) as well as the position of the ballast blocks are given
in the tables below. The composition and the position of the ballast during work (final ballasting) are given
in the tables below.

1. 4. FITTING THE BALLAST BY MEANS OF THE MOBILE CRANE

1. 4. 1. PREPARATION
Preparing ballasting consists in checking the passage of the supports through the blocks.

1. 4. 2. PLACING THE BLOCKS

- Sling the first block, then raise it and introduce it into the counter−jib (nearest position to the crane
tower) (Detail A, B − Figure 1).
- On the catwalk side introduce the support (1) into the block (COMPULSORY) (Detail C − Figure 1).
- Then continue lowering the block in order to rest the support (1) onto the inclined planes (2) by making
sure that the plate (3) is placed between the block and the inclined plane (2) (Detail D, E − Figure 1).
- Repeat this operation as many times as there are blocks.
